DeepCool Assassin 4S CPU Air Cooler Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The DeepCool Assassin IV is available now for £89.99 on Amazon, and while at the time of writing it was out of stock, the new DeepCool Assassin 4S should be around £10-15 cheaper, and you can check for up-to-date stock and prices here.

Overview

DeepCool has kept the formula pretty simple here, trimming down the size of one of their most powerful CPU coolers by taking a fan off it and dropping the price a bit. Don’t get me wrong, if I can fit it in my case, the Assassin IV is the one I would buy. However, not everyone needs flagship cooling performance and a huge cooler, and a mid-to-high-end i5 or i7 or equivalent Ryzen isn’t that hard to keep cool, so the Assassin 4S is perfect for that job.

That being said, we put it on a very demanding i9-13900K, a very powerful and very hot running CPU and even in the silent mode it didn’t hit the thermal limit, so it’s clearly very capable. Sure, the Assassin IV performed with even better cooling, but when it came to using our optimised settings, the difference between the cheaper 4S and the more expensive IV pretty much vanished, further adding to the value for money for the 4S.

Dropping down to a single fan made it run quieter than the 4S, but most notable is that while the acoustic performance was some of the quietest we’ve ever heard from any CPU cooler, the overall cooling performance was also still some of the best, making this a pretty amazing CPU cooler.

I love that it has a built-in fan controller too, and for lower-powered CPUs or in cooler environments, you can just run it in silent mode all the time with no issues. However, on hot sunny days or more powerful CPUs, just leave it on normal mode, as it cools even better, and while a little more noise is generated, it’s still overall a very quiet cooler in normal mode anyway.

DeepCool has trimmed this cooler down a little, but it’s still every bit the premium cooler the Assassin IV was. It still comes with the same overall design, dual-tower cooling design, 7 heat pipes, and stealth fan mount with quick release. The fact they include a huge tube of premium thermal paste and a custom screwdriver just sweetens the deal too.
