Dishonored PC Review

The game is played from a 1st person perspective, much like any first person shooter. But its how you play that really makes this game stand out. Blending a mixture of Assassins Creed assassination gameplay with the stealth of Metal Gear Solid with the dark FPS style of Bioshock, all the while being nothing like any of these games.

You can pick how you play through Dishonored and it’s this that I love about it the most. You can pick your pistol, sword and cross bow and literally play this game like Bioshock, going through guns blazing, performing assassinations with your sword, looting and killing your way through till the end. This is no bad thing either and its a very enjoyable way to play the game.

The real gold is how the game designers have created their missions, you start at “A” and get told to do “B”, but you’re not told how. As I said you can go in guns blazing and get the job done. You can sneak your way through the shadows, across roof tops and through windows. If you’re skilled enough you can apparently complete the game without killing a single soul and without getting seen by a single guard.

You can use sleep darts, traps, rewire security systems to kill on your behalf, hide bodies in trash cans and more to deceive and dispose of your foes. Or of course you can use much darker talents to your advantage thanks to the games perks system. Special items known as bone charms and relics are hidden throughout the game world. Unlock these to gain access to special abilities such as “blink” which allows you to do a quick point to point (line of sight) teleport. Use this to jump from shadow to shadow, across roof tops, past enemies and more.

You can unlock the ability to possess small creatures such as rats and fish to sneak through drains, doors and more to avoid being seen, or even possess a guard and walk right past the other guards. The combinations are almost limitless and it’s down to you to pick how you do it. This is what really makes Dishonored come to life, it also gives it a huge amount of playability. I used stealth throughout the game and it was thrilling, sneaking across the tops of street lights and leaping onto guards to knock them out cold was highly satisfying. But pulling out your crossbow and pistol to go hell for leather into the fight is just as much fun.
