We do love a good DOOM mod here at eTeknix, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t! We’ve already seen what QUAKE would look like with some sweet ray-tracing effects, and it is pretty awesome. However, now you can get your old-school FPS kicks again thanks to modder “sultim-t”. They’ve just released their new real-time path tracing mod for the id Software classic! We know their work is decent too, as it’s the same person that made the Serious Sam ray tracing mod last year.
The game now has full path tracing effects, basically one of the most advanced uses of the ray tracing system, allowing for real-time light and shadow effects. While some of this ray tracing stuff may not interest some gamers, the underlying technology really is incredibly complicated, and as you can see in the video below, adds a level of immersion that can have a huge impact on visuals, even on such an old game.
The greatly improved lighting effects do look great, making the game quite a bit darker, but a lot more atmospheric. The lighting effects as you fire a rocket down a corridor are especially cool.
If you want to play the game, you can download Doom Ray Traced here. However, if you also want to use Nvidia’s DLSS technology, you can download nvngx_dlss.dll or take it from a game installation that already supports DLSS, and place it in the DOOM folder.
