Doom Now Playable in the Google Search Bar

Just when you think all the possible ways to play Doom have been discovered, from an oscilloscope to a pregnancy test—it has all been done! Well, then someone comes along with yet another crazy and innovative way to play it! Today, it’s now possible to run Doom in the Google search bar of all things.
Doom is such an iconic game, but the joke of “can it run Doom” has likely spawned just as much joy for many programmers as, you know… actually playing the game itself. Especially for developer Pedro Webber, who turned this search bar idea into a reality.
Doom
There’s a video below showcasing it, and while I’ll admit it’s not the most visually pleasing or even most playable version of Doom I’ve ever seen, it is a testament to the creativity of those willing to find new ways to push Doom to strange new places.
Personally, I’m more impressed that it runs with a full soundtrack and controller support—talk about going the extra mile on this one!
“In today’s video, I showcase an incredible feat: running DOOM directly in the Google Search Bar! 🚀💻 After running DOOM in Visual Studio Code and turning Elden Ring into ASCII art, I’m now exploring another unexpected way to play DOOM – right in the Google Search Bar!” – Webber
Webber created this version using Python, allowing the search field to be greatly expanded. By then zooming out to get the playable area into focus, it seems to work rather well. Sure, it looks like crap, but it’s unmistakably Doom, and it’s without a doubt playable despite being such a weird implementation.
This isn’t his first crazy project either, having already had Doom run in Visual Studio, and even turning Elden Ring into an ASCII art renderer. What will Webber come up with next, I wonder?
