DOTA 2 Sets a New Prize Pool Record

Prize pools in eSports are generally pretty high, whether we’re talking about games such as League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Starcraft or Dota 2. Speaking of Dota 2, it looks like the famed MOBA has once again set a record for the biggest prize pool in eSports history. Last year’s record was set by the same game, which had a prize pool of $18,429,613. However, this year the prize was raised to $18,497,774, which is nearly a $70,000 increase when compared to the previous record. It’s worth noting that this amount could very well increase by the time the event actually starts in August at Seattle’s KeyArena.

Those of you who are only interested in the finals will have to dish out $100 for a ticket, which gives you access to the tourney’s last two days. Still, you could just spend $75 for a mid-week ticket, in which case you’d only be able to witness the first four days of the event. Getting both tickets is obviously the best idea, even though there doesn’t seem to be a discount for this option. There will also be an outdoor viewing area available for the last two days, but you would have to hope for good weather.

Are you a fan of eSports, and if so, are you looking forward to this year’s DOTA 2 Championships?
