Price

£99.95 is not exactly a bargain for a keyboard, but in the world of mechanical keyboards, the Ducky Shine 2108S is on par with similar specification, full size keyboards. There may be better or worse options on the market for the same money, but it really depends on what your personal requirements are. This is a solid all-rounder with a price tag that is exactly where we would expect it to be.

Overview

I have mixed feelings about the new Ducky keyboard, in many respects I find it more than a little boring, standard looking and lacking in features, but at the same time I absolutely love it. The overall design is pretty standard though, a black wedge with fairly standard looking keys on it, so much so that many people wouldn’t give it a second look if they saw it on your desk. However, the LED back-lighting can certainly change that, in a dark room this thing looks gorgeous and is great for gaming in a darker environment.

Replaceable key caps are certainly welcome too, the original design may be a little bland, and while the four extra key caps add a little bit of change there are options to customise the keyboard with third-party key-caps from companies such as Qwer Keys.

Build quality isn’t anything incredible, but it’s hardly rubbish either. The plastics used feel decent enough and mechanical switches are world-famous for their reliability. The rubber grips and flip-up legs could be improved, but again they’re on par with most any other keyboard in this price range.

The typing action is lush, in fact it is the one thing that makes this keyboard world every penny and if you’re after a gorgeous typing action, without all the glitz and flare of a gaming keyboard, then this could be a more sensible choice for you.
