EA and Crytek Shut Down Servers for Warface and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare
Just over a week after Sony announced the closure of Bluepoint studio, new reports confirm the upcoming shutdown of all multiplayer features for Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare and Warface.
Twelve years after the launch of the shooter spin-off of Plants vs. Zombies, Electronic Arts has announced that all online services for the first Garden Warfare will come to an end. The first servers to be shut down will be those for the PlayStation 3 version, with the final date set for April 28. At the time of writing, it is still unclear if and when the PC, Xbox 360, PS4, and Xbox One versions will also lose their servers, although this type of move usually leads to a full shutdown across all platforms.
Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare Servers Going Offline
The closure of the PlayStation 3 servers marks the beginning of the end for the original Garden Warfare. While EA has not confirmed the full schedule for other platforms, similar cases in the past suggest that the remaining versions could follow.
Since the game focuses heavily on online multiplayer modes, shutting down the servers will strongly affect the overall experience for players who are still active.
The future of Warface Clutch is already confirmed. Crytek and MY.GAMES have disabled the in-game store for microtransactions and started the refund process for players who still have unused in-game currency. The companies are now preparing to permanently shut down the servers.
PC players will be able to continue playing until May 27, while console players will have access until August 25. Because Warface is an online-only multiplayer game, the shutdown of its servers will result in the complete closure of all game modes.
With these decisions, two long-running multiplayer titles are preparing to say goodbye to their communities.
