EA Blunders With Hugely Ironic Twitter Post

In many respects, the gaming community has become somewhat comfortably accustomed to disliking EA. In fact, the borderline hatred has been so long-standing that they almost get a free pass these days merely due to the fact that every joke/criticism you could make against them have probably already been made, and, of course, the fact that a lot of other developers have come along since to annoy us even more since!

It seems, however, that EA is still capable of getting the gaming communities’ goat as a joke post from their official Twitter account (containing a huge level of lost irony) has only managed to remind people of just how scumbaggish they’ve been in the past!

EA Blunders into Hugely Ironic Twitter Post

Now just to put this into context, I can 100% see what they were going for here. The overall concept of meme posts like this is to start by explaining something perfect, and then one major thing that completely ruins it. – When a company well-known for destroying single-player IPs in favour of microtransaction-riddled multiplayer titles, however, you can’t help but think that whoever wrote this post was either on crack, was very new to the company, or was so much more experienced in PR than gaming that they were blissfully unaware what can of worms they were about to open!

Following masses of re-tweets, particularly from those who used to work on single-player games for EA-acquired developers that either saw projects cancelled or the entire studio shuttered, however, it seems that they’ve had to pretty much just hold its hands up and say ‘yeah, we really didn’t think this one through’.

Well… It Could’ve Been Worse I Suppose

This isn’t, of course, the first blunder they’ve made when it has come to their past actions within the gaming industry. I daresay that more than a few of you still remember their comments on loot boxes where they described them as ‘ethical surprise mechanics’. – The irony of this post though is that it has come following the release of some hugely successful single-player exclusive titles. Star Wars: Fallen Order was amazing. And lest we forget that they currently have a sequel for it in development.

More than anything though, it’s a bit of a hard pill to swallow when they seemingly criticise people who prefer single-player games when their last major multiplayer release (Battlefield 2042) was (and remains) an absolute shit show!

What do you think? What’s your most favourite single-player game of all time? In addition, do you think the person in charge of their Twitter account should maybe take a few days off? – Let us know in the comments!
