EA Ramping Up Efforts Against Battlefield 1 Cheaters

Battlefield 1

When Battlefield 1 launched in October 2016, initially I was a bit of a fan. Being a fan of the BF series since around 2004 (with many late nights spent flying jets (badly) or simply annoying my friends with my insistence on calling the Karkand map Karkland) I have largely enjoyed every game in the series.

As part of trying to keep the experience fun for players, EA has announced plans for a major crackdown on cheaters within Battlefield 1.

Cheaters

Cheaters within a game can quickly form a toxic part of the experience. In January alone, PUBG saw over a million accounts banned, but even they admit that they’re not currently winning the war.

While I am not aware of any major or prevalent cheating issue currently within Battlefield 1, I am certain that it does exist. Therefore in a report via Polygon, it seems that EA wants to assure fans that cheaters are not going to prosper.

Keeping the fight fair

In a blog post titled ‘Keeping the fight fair’ developer Dice highlighted their intention for the crackdown: “We are confident that our detection methods produce accurate results. Cheat developers may be attempting to manipulate players’ minds about anti-cheat tools, and to leverage detection information from game developers.”

Wishing to assure fans that good players will not get caught in this by accident, they did go on to say: “A common misconception regarding FairFight is that higher skilled players are more likely to get sanctioned due to their improved match stats. This is not correct; it is not possible to be banned simply for being skilled.”

The future of Battlefield 1

BF1 has seen a good and steady stream of DLC in recent months, despite initially being rather slow. I must confess my chances of revisiting this game are not fantastic, but I daresay, I might take a nostalgic trip back at some point. Any crackdown of cheaters will, for me at least, certainly be an incentive and definitely for any who left because of it.

What do you think? Does Battlefield 1 have an issue with cheaters? Will EA be able to fix it? – Let us know in the comments!
