EA Says Gamers “Love” Loot Boxes – In Other News, PR Team Accused of Smoking Crack!

I think it would be fair to say that despite the number of people who spend money on loot boxes, overall, the various methods of microtransactions that have continually and more pervasively crept their way into games over the last 10 years are an overwhelmingly unpopular thing within the gaming community. – And this is particularly so with EA who have clearly never shown themselves to be shy when it comes to attempting to continue to gouge their customers long after the original point of sale!

Following a report via Eurogamer, however, EA has seemingly decided to ignore this point by declaring that, for FIFA titles at least, we “love” their loot boxes!

EA Says FIFA Players “Love” FUT Loot Boxes Mechanics!

So, before I go any further, I’m going to give you the direct quote from EA so you can make your own mind up whether you think what I’m about to follow this up with is merely a sensationalist diatribe!

“We wholeheartedly believe that Ultimate Team and FUT Packs, which have been part of the game for more than a decade, are a part of FIFA that players love – fans love that the game reflects the real-world excitement and strategy of building and managing a squad. Giving players the choice to spend if they want to is fair.”

Now, admittedly, no, EA does not go as far as to call them “loot boxes” in this quote. Remember though, according to them, their games don’t have ‘loot boxes’, they’re ‘surprise ethical mechanics’! (Yes, EA described them as this a couple of years ago – I only wish I was joking!).

Why are they even mentioning it at all though? Well, in something that I daresay will surprise you no more than the grass being green (well, brown at the moment) or the sky being blue, it’s because the upcoming release of FIFA 23 will ‘feature’ FUT ‘surprise ethical mechanic’ packs.

What do you think though? – Do you LOVE loot boxes? – PLEASE let us know in the comments!
