Edge Of Eternity Heads To Kickstarter, Developer Makes A Worrying Amount Of Promises

Edge Of Eternity is heading to Kickstarter this September, where it’s developers aim to seek money to bring this game to retail, although I’m personally a little concerned that they’re over shooting their mark on this one and that it could loose its entertainment value in the way of adding too many features and gimmicks.

The game promises to be a classic style turn based RPG that is reminiscent of the Final Fantasy VII era, likely no coincidence that the developers are named Midgar Studio, with the city of Midgar being centre stage in Final Fantasy VII its self.

The classic combat is one thing, but add to that a gaming universe setting that is space based, medieval AND steampunk, while featuring “a mature story and fancy graphics.”

Edge Of Eternity will be available on:

  • iOS
  • Android
  • Windows Phone 8
  • Blackberry 10
  • PSVita
  • Ouya
  • Wii U
  • Xbox One
  • Playstation 4
  • PC
  • Mac
  • Linux

Now call me crazy, but did they just forget to mention the Commodore 64 or what? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any game make such a tall order as this and it concerns me that the game developers may not be very focused with this title, even if it does sound like it has the basis for something awesome. The developers say that the save games can be synced and that you can continue you game on any platform, no word on if you’ll have to buy multiple copies just yet, but it seems likely.

“VR is something we really like then we added support for Oculus Rift!” said the development team, although this one sounds completely ridiculous given the multi-format save game support and play style.

“Edge Of Eternity will be one of the first AAA mobile games : redefining the technical limits of mobile platforms with stunning graphics and featuring an amazing story with more than 20 hours of gameplay for the main quest.” again, another tall order and wild claim, lets hope the developers can get their heads out of the clouds and make a modern RPG title worthy of a studio that calls it’s self after one of the most famous cities in RPG gaming history.

“The peaceful world of Heryon is threatened by an alien civilization which have invaded the world, they bring with them a disease who turn people and animals to metal monsters. The hero, Daryon, hunted by his own people must discover his origin and save the universe from collapsing.”

Thank you Midgar Studio for providing us with this information.

1> They can’t even get their own name
2> Stunning graphics? Anyone could make a better textured model than their characters in as little as 5 hours.
3> Oculus rift, are you serious? This is a menu based game and not a first person, this is going to suck ass on oculus rift.
4> The effects are as good as maidmarian’s sherwood; they suck ass.
5> They honestly are trying too hard while their skills definitely doesn’t even meet 5% of what they’re promising; this game is going to fail, hard.

Our name reflect our passion and it’s more than just a reference to Final Fantasy, we live in a place named “Gard” in France and we are in a city named Nîmes and it’s at the middle of the “Gard” then we are at the mid-gard that’s the reason of the name.

The screenshot you see here come from our blog, it’s the battle prototype, like it’s written at the top it’s only a work in progress prototype look to these more recents screenshots.

The character here is still a test character and it’s not reflecting in any form the real ones, i have a screenshot coming from the nearly finished version of the hero, (missing haircut and texture)

It reflect a lot more what the characters will be.

Don’t forget that our primary target is mobile platforms like PSVita / Smartphones / Tablets, other versions are the same versions with a lot more effects and more detailed characters.

For the Oculus Rift we did a test on PC and we really enjoyed the possibility to move freely the cam around camera points to enjoy environments then we decided to add these bonus feature since Oculus provide a very good SDK to easily add it into Unity Games.

M, you have no idea what you’re talking about. How can you be so rude with a growing studio trying to improve themselves and set the bar higher?, this is a multiplat lite game, what kind of shaders are you expecting? would you like some raytracing or voxel octree lighting, monsieur?, stop behaving like a PC elitist; we all get it, you like Crysis 3.
