Elden Ring Switch 2 Version Shows Major Performance Improvements
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition was heavily criticized when it was first shown running on Nintendo Switch 2. The early version looked weak in terms of performance and visuals. Because of the negative feedback, Bandai Namco decided last October to delay the release of the open-world RPG, giving developers more time to improve the technical side of the game.
That decision now appears to have been the right one. During this year’s Game Developers Conference, Bandai Namco presented an updated build of the game, and the first impressions are much more positive.
The New Build Looks More Stable
According to Polygon, the game now appears much more stable compared to earlier showings. The image quality is surprisingly good in both docked and handheld modes.
Observers did not notice overly low-resolution or blurry textures, even while playing in portable mode. The famous moment when the Tarnished first steps into Limgrave reportedly looks as impressive as it does on other platforms, without causing major performance problems.
Despite these improvements, the game still has some technical limits. The frame rate is not completely stable yet, and the Switch 2 version does not seem capable of reaching a full 60 FPS experience.
However, the current build has significantly reduced the performance gap compared to the version playable on Steam Deck, based on Polygon’s impressions. While there is still work to do, the latest version suggests that the Switch 2 port of Elden Ring is moving in the right direction.
