Electronic Arts Source Admits Nintendo Was “Dead” To Them After Wii U Launch

Nintendo’s Wii U never had a big impact as a gaming console, most people knew that from the start and other saw it later on. It seems that even Nintendo started to admit its failure this Friday, according to CVG. The company revealed an unsatisfactory sales figures of the Wii U console and currently things do not look so bright for the future of the company.

Nintendo has entered a downward spiral, regardless of its financial reserves that are stated to exceed the investments in Xbox One and PS4 combined. The latest Wii U console dragged them down big time. The figures show that Nintendo sold more Wii U consoles in the first seven weeks of its launch than it did in the financial year that followed. Even retails stores from the US and UK have limited the amount of Wii U consoles to a handful of stock in the back storage room, or even discontinued the product completely.

Furthermore, Electronic Arts have stated to drop the Wii U platform along with all Nintendo devices shortly after the Wii U console was released. An anonymous source from inside the company told CVG that they felt Wii U was heading towards a platform dedicated for kids IP and they were not interested in making games. Therefore, Nintendo was taken off the list as a potential platform for their games.

“Nintendo was dead to us very quickly,” the EA source told CVH when asked about why the publisher fell out with Nintendo so soon after committing to the system. “It became a kids IP platform and we don’t really make games for kids. That was pretty true across the other labels too. Even the Mass Effect title on Wii U, which was a solid effort, could never do big business, and EA like Activision is only focused on games that can be big franchises” he added.

The future of Nintendo does not look so bright, nor its future developments in the upcoming years. But who knows, maybe they will pull it off in the end and get back on track. But it is still too early to make any kind of presumptions at this stage.
