Elgato has launched a nifty little USB device they are calling the Cam Link 4K. As the name suggests, this device is the 4K Ultra HD capable version of their Cam Link dongle. It is essentially a low-cost upgrade for Internet content creators who want high-res footage. That is without breaking the bank and buying a separate high-end 4K Ultra HD webcam.
To use the Elgato Cam Link 4K, simply plug it into a PC and connect the dongle to a video source via HDMI. It takes the input from that camera and it can convert it to a 1080p @ 60fps footage or a 4K UHD @ 30fps video.
The device requires at least a 4th Gen quad-core Intel Core i5 CPU, plus either a macOS Sierrra 10.12 or Windows 10 (64-bit) operating system.
Obviously, not all devices are supported. Although to make it easier for users, the company has compiled a list of compatible cameras on their website. This includes several popular DSLRs and Mirrorless cameras such as the Sony A6300, Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 and more.
The Cam Link 4K is now available for pre-order £119.95 via Amazon UK or Corsair’s web store. The actual item starts shipping on December 7, 2018.
