Elgato Launches Wave Mic Arm MK.2 and Standalone Voice Focus VST
Elgato, a Corsair brand, has just unveiled two new tools for content creators: the re-engineered Wave Mic Arm MK.2 boom arm and the standalone Voice Focus VST plugin. Both are designed to make professional audio quality more accessible and less of a headache.
The goal here is simple: eliminate common barriers to great sound, allowing creators to get studio-quality results without a dedicated sound booth or complex hardware.
Wave Mic Arm MK.2
The Wave Mic Arm MK.2 builds on the original with upgraded materials, smoother movement, and more flexibility. It features premium metal components and a sleek design, focusing on silent operation.
The arm can rotate 360 degrees and holds its position perfectly, with no creaking or snapping. For a clean look, it features hidden cable channels. It clamps securely onto desks up to 60 mm (2.4 in) thick, and includes a riser extension for extra height over large monitors.
Julian Fest, GM of Elgato, noted that the MK.2 reflects how creators work today: “It’s flexible, minimal, and ready for anything from compact desks to full podcast rigs.”
Key Mic Arm Features
- All-Metal Construction: Premium design for silent and secure positioning.
- Highly Flexible: 360-degree rotation that maintains position without spring noise.
- Integrated Cable Management: Hidden channels keep wires out of sight.
- Universal Compatibility: Works with virtually any microphone using standard thread adaptors.
- Includes Riser: Extension is included for added vertical clearance.
Voice Focus
Voice Focus, previously exclusive to Elgato’s Wave Link software, is now available as a standalone VST/AU plugin for any compatible DAW or recording app. Developed in partnership with ai|coustics, this plugin provides real-time, AI-powered voice isolation.
The software doesn’t just filter noise; it actively works live to significantly reduce reverb and suppress background noise like keyboard clicks, fan sounds, and desk vibrations. Crucially, it does this while preserving the full quality of your mic signal, avoiding the over-compression of older noise reduction tools.
The user interface is simple, featuring a single strength slider to dial in the desired effect.
Stephan Noethen, Product Architect at Elgato, summed it up by saying, “Creators shouldn’t need a vocal booth to sound professional. With this plugin, they don’t.”
Key Voice Focus Features
- Real-Time AI Processing: Provides studio-quality voice isolation instantly.
- Advanced Noise Reduction: Suppresses background noise and significantly reduces room reverb.
- Single-Slider Control: Effortless professional results without complex menus.
- Platform Support: Available as VST3 (Windows) and AU (macOS) plugins.
