Frontier has made space trading and exploration game Elite: Dangerous available on Steam for £39.99. Customers who buy the PC version of the game will get immediate access to the Mac version when it is released, with accounts interchangeable between the two.
Frontier, the game’s developer, said, “There is no functional difference between the Steam and EliteDangerous.com versions of Elite: Dangerous,” so there should be no worries with online play between the two.
Those who bought Elite: Dangerous from the web store can now add the game to their Steam account and updates can downloaded automatically through Valve’s games platform. DLC, however, will still need to be purchased from EliteDangerous.com, for the time being, at least.
Michael Brookes, Executive Producer on Elite: Dangerous, explained how to add the game to your Steam library without a Steam key on the Frontier forum:
“To add your existing Elite: Dangerous install to your Steam library and use Steam overlay in Elite: Dangerous, click Games > Add a non-Steam game to my library and add EDLaunch.exe, ordinarily located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Frontier\EDLaunch\ on a PC.”
Elite: Dangerous remains on sale through EliteDangerous.com.
