Elon Musk has always been a little playful in suggesting that the entertainment system offered in their Tesla cars will one day be powerful enough to play modern AAA-gaming titles. While he has delivered on that promise in a number of relatively minor ways, however, following an official showcase of their upcoming Model S Plaid, Elon Musk has finally confirmed that this newly enhanced Tesla car is capable of playing (and seemingly much better than you might think or expect) Cyberpunk 2077.

Playable on the cars 17-inch display, which offers 2200×1300 resolution (slightly better than ‘full HD’), in the video below, we can clearly see that this new Tesla Model S Plaid’s entertainment system is, against a lot of expectations, actually capable of running the game. We should make it clear, this is not being streamed from a service like PSNow. Elon Musk is claiming that the game is running natively from hardware directly located within the vehicle.
So, what is that hardware? Well, it’s understood that the graphics adaptor is some form of AMD Navi 23 Radeon Pro. Likely some kind of mildly watered down variant of its newly launched Radeon Pro W6600. In terms of the processing power, however, that remains something of a mystery. While speculation suggests that it’s almost certainly AMD, neither Tesla nor Elon Musk have yet specifically commented on the subject.
What they do make clear, however, is that they believe that the infotainment system offered in the Tesla Model S Plaid is at least on par with the capabilities of the PS5. What Do We Think?
The Tesla Model S Plaid costs $122,990 and although 25 of the vehicles have already been shipped to owners, it’s not expected that this is going to be a particularly mainstream variant of their highly-popular all electric cars. If not in terms of numbers, then at least in those who don’t really want to spend a fortune to play Cyberpunk 2077 while stuck in traffic.
Given how amazingly buggy Cyberpunk 2077 remains, however, I daresay that there’s some sort of joke to be made here about which is more likely to crash first, the car or the game.
