While it's common to see PSU manufacturers opt for third-party fans, Endorfy's decision to use their in-house design speaks volumes about their confidence in their cooling solutions, promising efficient thermal management and quieter operation. It's clear that the Supremo FM6 1000w is ticking all the essential boxes, incorporating the latest safety features you'd expect in a modern PSU, and all at a price that's hard to ignore. It's certainly captured my attention, so let's dive in for a closer look. Of course, for our testing, join me on the following pages! Packaging I like Endorfy's approach to packaging, as they keep things very simple. Like their other products, it uses a printed brown cardboard box, which is durable, simple, and also fully recyclable. All the key features are listed on the front too, we can see the warranty, efficiency, fan design, and more, all detailed here. Around the back, there's a quick run-down of the specifications, current capacity, included accessories, and even all the connector types and cable lengths, so a big thumbs up to Endorfy for getting every bit of information you could need so clearly presented. A Closer Look While this may be a more affordable model, it still looks as good as many other big-name brands' premium models. There's a good amount of ventilation up on the top, with a screwed on metal fan guard and a 120mm fan tucked below that. Down the side, there's an embossed Endorfy logo, a plain and simple idea, but much nicer than just slapping a sticker on it. And of course, it's the same on the other side. At the back, there's plenty of ventilation to exhaust heat, a master power switch, and of course, the AC line-in port. The FM6 1000w is fully modular, with a good range of connectors on offer. There are five CPU/PCIe ports, three peripheral ports, a split connector for the motherboard 24-pin and also a 12v-2x6. Finally, on the underside, there's the specifications sticker. Overall, a pretty simple design, but it's clean, stylish and well-made. A Closer Look - Interior In the interior, there's a 120mm fan. It's one of the Endorfy Fluctus Fans, which comes with a unique fan blade design to help with airflow while also providing a reduction in the noise levels. The fan is rated for 1400 RPM, which is lower than expected, but should be more than enough to cool, while keeping noise levels low. The internal design is really nice and clean, and that's going to ensure there's good airflow throughout the unit, and all major components are well spaced too, which will help even further. A lot of PSUs I review share a very similar platform, but this one looks unlike any I've seen recently, so I'm guessing it's a new design, and it looks very promising based on the cleanliness, components and spacing I'm seeing here. Endorfy has used all Japanese-made capacitors throughout. The main bulk capacitor is rated for up to 105c, so it should be able to handle all the punishment you throw at it, while also being very reliable. I think the little details are a good indication of quality too, such as minimal excess cable on the interior, and clean soldering, and the FM6 certainly ticks all the boxes there. Methodology & Testing At eTeknix we take the power supply testing procedure very seriously and have invested a lot of resources into acquiring the appropriate testing equipment. For all power supply reviews, we test the power supplies with dedicated power supply testing equipment. This means we can get the most accurate results from our testing as opposed to using software benchmarks (such as OCCT) or multi-meter readouts which are broadly inaccurate. Testing Hardware Sunmoon SM-8800 Active Load Tester Stingray DS1M12 USB Oscilloscope Voltcraft DT-10L laser tachometer What the eTeknix Test Procedure Involves Testing each power supply at 20/40/60/80/100% load (with load balanced across all rails) and measuring PFC (power factor correction), efficiency (actual power divided by power "pulled at the wall") which also uses a 50% load test, and voltage regulation (deviance from expected voltages of 3.3/5/12 on the main rails). Measuring ripple with an oscilloscope at 20/40/60/80/100% load. Transient loads taken with an oscilloscope are taken from 0% to 100% on the 12v raid, 3.3v rail, and then both combined. Measuring fan speed after a stabilisation period of five minutes at each loading scenario using the Voltcraft DT-10L laser tachometer and a reflective strip on the fan. Testing each power supply's OPP (Over Power Protection) mechanism and seeing how many watts each power supply can deliver before shutting down. Any deviation from this will be explained per review as appropriate on the respective testing pages, but this methodology page will remain unchanged. Other Things to Consider We recognise that a single 12-volt cable can provide only 6 Amps before overheating (which corrupts voltage regulation and efficiency) so we used an adequate number of cables for each power supply to ensure there is no efficiency loss from poor cable selection. If there is more than one 12VHPWR on a PSU, all will be used to test their combined loads. We use the same time scale and horizontal millivolt scale on our oscilloscope for all ripple tests, that is a 20ms T/DIV (horizontal) and a 0.02 V/DIV (vertical) meaning the scale is from -80mV to +80mV, ATX spec dictates that the 12v rail must fall within 150mv of ripple and the 3.3/5 within 50mv so that scale allows us to include both 150 and 50mV peaks. (Some older PSU reviews use different scales which were later ditched as the visual representation they give is inadequate, in these reviews written measurements are provided only). Deviance is the terminology used to represent the way voltages diverge from the expected values Voltage Regulation To test voltage regulation we load the power supply to five different load scenarios that give an equal spread of load across every single rail. So that means 20% on all rails, 40% on all rails and so on. We then calculate the average deviation of each rail from its expected voltage. Ideally, anything of +/- 2% regulation is seen as a very good result. Power Efficiency Power efficiency is measured by calculating the supplied wattage divided by the wattage drawn at the wall/plug, multiplied by 100 to give a percentage. We then compare that to the particular 80 Plus certification the company claims to see if it meets that. You can see the 80 Plus certifications below, we always test power supplies at 230v. Transient Loads Power Factor Correction Power Factor Correction is the ratio of the real power flowing to the load, to the apparent power in the circuit. PFC aims to make the load circuitry that is power factor corrected appear purely resistive (apparent power equal to real power). In this case, the voltage and current are in phase and the reactive power consumption is zero. The closer the number to one the better as this allows the most efficient delivery of electrical power (Source - Wikipedia). Ripple An oscilloscope can easily measure noise and Ripple. These show how much voltage fluctuation there is on a particular rail. We tested the rail stability of the 3.3-volt, 5-volt and 12-volt rails using an identical time and millivolt scale for all graphs. millivolt ripple is measured by the peak-to-peak size of the voltage curve. The latest ATX 12-volt version 2.3 specifications state that ripple from peak to peak must be no higher than 50 millivolts for the 3.3-volt and 5-volt rails, while the 12-volt rail is allowed up to 120 millivolts peak to peak to stay within specifications. Millivolt figures are stated to the closest increment of 5 given their variability. OPP Power supplies are often quoted as having various protection mechanisms and the most important of these is Over Power Protection. In our testing, we crank up the power draw until the power supply either shuts down (meaning the OPP mechanism is present and working) or blows up (meaning it is either not present or not working). We then note the maximum power consumption before the power supply shut down, or before it blew up. Fan Speed When testing in a power supply laboratory it is difficult to take fan noise readings as the noise from the Sunmoon test equipment and air conditioning corrupts everything. The next best thing in our circumstances was reading off the fan speed with a tachometer to get an idea of the noise. The ambient temperature during testing is held constant at 22 degrees, with 1 degree of variation. Each power supply had a consistent period of 5 minutes to stabilise between each load scenario. In my experience, the following general relationships apply between noise levels and fan speeds, though it can vary greatly between the type of fan used. Below 800 RPM - Inaudible/Silent 800 to 1000 RPM - Barely audible 1000 - 1200 RPM - Audible but still quiet 1200 - 1400 RPM - Moderately noisy 1400 - 1800 RPM - Noisy 1800 - 2000 RPM or above - Intolerable Internal Components This is just an example of what you can expect to see on a PSU interior. Efficiency Efficiency really is fantastic here, scoring strong enough for both 80 Plus Gold certification, as well as Platinum certification from Cybernetics, meaning less power is pulled from the mains to generate the desired output, resulting in lower running costs, less power wasted, and of course, less heat generated. PFC (Power Factor Correction) Power Factor Correction is excellent, and while staying as close to 1.0 is absolutely perfect, it stays overall very high, which again helps with efficiency and reduces unnecessary heat generation while operating your system. Voltage Regulation A good PSU will typically keep voltage regulation at no more than 5%, while 3% would be very good indeed. However, all these averages are within 1%, making for accurate power delivery that's going to aid overall system stability at various loads. Ripple Ripple is a little higher than some modern units, but still well within the acceptable range. To meet specifications, you need to be within 150mv on 12V and 250mv on the other rails, so this is obviously well within that. Overall, ripple is low, voltage regulation is fantastic, and it should make for a reliable and stable PSU for any system. 3.3V 5V 12V Over Power Protection and Max Wattage While only being rated at 1000W, and I use the term "only" rather loosely here, as that is a lot of power, this PSU managed to pull around 50% above that before the OPP kicked in. While in no way should you be overpowering the PSU like this, it'll certainly have no issues dealing with short power spikes without shutting down your system. It's also good to see that if the PSU does get overloaded too far or too hot, it'll shut off to prevent any unwanted damage to itself or your system. Fan Speed The 120mm fan that is fitted is surprisingly quiet despite its seemingly high RPM. It starts off at 1000 RPM and maxes out around its full 1400 RPM rating, but still manages to be very quiet overall. Really, no louder than a typical cooling fan thanks to its 1400 RPM limit, with many case fans running from 1000-2000 RPM, it's unlikely you'll be bothered by the PSU cooling. How Much Does it Cost? The Endorfy FM6 1000W hits an incredibly attractive price point of just £123. This positions it as offering exceptional value for money within an extremely competitive market, especially considering the premium features it offers, hardware support, cooling performance, and the quality of its power delivery. You can pay more than double this for some brands for little or no added benefit, making this a bargain that's hard to ignore. Voltage regulation is excellent, with average deviations staying within 1% across all rails, ensuring stable and accurate power delivery to system components. Power efficiency is also noteworthy, achieving both 80 Plus Gold and Cybernetics Platinum certifications, indicating minimal power waste. While ripple levels are well within acceptable ATX specifications, ensuring stable operation, some modern PSUs do even better, but often cost much more too. The Over Power Protection (OPP) worked as intended, but the PSU did draw 1500W at peak, which is really high and could likely be set a little lower, but it's good to see the PSU can handle a few hundred extra watts for a short burst if needed. Aesthetics While the design is pretty simple, Endorfy has managed to deliver a clean and stylish power supply, and the embossed side logos are a nice touch compared to simple stickers. The ample ventilation on the top and back ensures good airflow, and the fan has a nice design too; not that you'll be looking at it very often. The fully modular design not only aids in cable management but also contributes to a cleaner overall look inside the PC case. Should I Buy One?
