I did point out that the Enermax ELC 120 had quite a loud pump. The Enermax ELC 240 does have the same pump, but the acoustic performance is a little bit better thanks to better fans. Compared to the competition the ELC 240 was noticeably quieter – particularly during idle and everyday system usage. The Enermax ELC 240 had neither fan rattle or loud fans like the Corsair H100i and Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme respectively. So this is a major bonus for the ELC 240. If you are looking for a quieter 240mm AIO liquid cooler, the Enermax ELC 240 is definitely the quietest out of these three we tested.
With overclocking and the increased fan speeds we definitely noticed a lot more noise compared the competition. Only the 800 RPM fan speed was quieter but as you saw on the previous page, the level of performance at 800 RPM was quite low relative to the competition. Arguably the 1200 RPM fan speed offers the best compromise between performance and noise. Anything higher than this was too loud for everyday usage so we would recommend only using fan speeds higher than 1200RPM for overclocking, folding and other heat-intensive scenarios.
