Enermax NAXN 850W Modular Power Supply Review

There are many different versions of the NAXN with some being modular and with ranging efficiencies. The two units that are relevant to this review are the 750W and 850W units which are modular and hold 80+ Bronze certificates. Looking at the specifications we can immediately see that the unit provides a massive proportion of its power running through the 12V rails which is a great sign, considering that is the most used rail. The NAXN uses four 12V rails to deliver power, which is something that I am not a great fan of because it requires the user to balance the rails for more stability whereas with a single rail it is just a case of care-free plugging and playing. However, multiple rails, if applied correctly, can provide better stability than a single strong rail- I may just be complaining because it is a pain to test!

One feature that baffled me when testing was their ‘HeatGuard’ technology. After turning the load tester off after finishing testing I noticed that the fan did not turn off for some time after. This is actually a feature which Enermax has included to dissipate any buildup of heat which is left after shutting down your computer. This graph demonstrates how effective it is at getting rid of this remaining heat. To what degree it affects lifespan is yet to be seen, but a potentially great feature nonetheless!

There is one thing that I dislike most about almost every PSU on the market- the factory braid. It is generally extremely loose weave and looks like it has been put there a gesture rather than an actual effort to make the cables look good. Enermax has solved this issue with their great looking two-tone braid. However, the braid stops a little short of the connectors for my liking.
