In a cold load test we run the PSU in an open air environment to see what the unit is capable without the limiting factor of heat. We hook the PSU up to our load tester and measure the voltage of the various rails as well as measuring the efficiency.
The results of this unit are typical of other PSUs in this price range. The rails are incredibly strong, never dropping below the target voltage on the all-important 12V rail. However, the voltage regulation isn’t fantastic providing slightly higher voltages than desired, but nowhere near outside ATX specs. Remember, having a fraction of a volt over is a non-issue, but when you start having the same amount under it starts to get dangerous- undervolting components like a graphics card can lead to some really serious problems. The efficiency is also well within it’s 80+ Bronze certification.
