EPIC Games Store to Offer FREE Games Every Two Weeks

Off to a Flying Start

EPIC announced that they are launching their EPIC Games store as a serious contender to Valve‘s Steam platform. In fact, they are even offering developers a much larger cut of the pie up to 88%. With developers on board, now EPIC just needs to attract people to increase their userbase. Which is why they have announced that every two weeks starting December 14, they will be offering FREE games to download.

This tactic is similar to what Humble Bundle/Humble Store usually does, so it can be surprisingly effective. It is hard to resist a free game after all. So far it appears that there is no catch and that these will be forever for-keeps. The only requirement being a registered account on EPIC servers.

Which Games is EPIC Offering for Free?

The first free game will be Subnautica, available from Dec 14th to Dec 27th, followed by Super Meat Boy from Dec 28th to Jan 10th.

Subnautica is an open world survival adventure game from Unknown Worlds Entertainment. The game allows players to freely explore the ocean on an alien planet, collecting unique resources to survive. The game came out on January 2018, and has a retail price of £19.49 on Steam.

Meanwhile, Super Meat Boy is a £10.99 indie 2D platformer from Team Meat. It came out over 8 years ago now, but due to its 2D graphics, it does not come across as an old game.

Not to be confused with the newer Super Meat Boy Forever which will also be available on the EPIC Games store. This newer version is not out yet but is expected in 2018.
