ESRB Rates Resident Evil Requiem: Microtransactions Confirmed, Mature Content Warning
The ESRB has rated Resident Evil Requiem, revealing new details about the next chapter in Capcom’s long-running survival horror series.
As expected, the game has received an M (Mature) rating and is recommended for players aged 17 and up due to “blood and gore, intense violence, and strong language.” Nothing unusual for a Resident Evil title.
Extreme Violence and Graphic Content
According to the ESRB description, the game is strongly discouraged for sensitive players. The report mentions the use of weapons such as chainsaws to “dismember and decapitate enemies.” Monsters and zombies are described as leaving large bloodstains and body parts scattered throughout the environments.
Some areas reportedly feature corpses with exposed organs and entrails. The description also references bodies being “ground up by a grinder” and characters being “impaled in the chest by a chainsaw.” Further details are avoided to prevent spoilers, but the tone is clear: Resident Evil Requiem will not hold back when it comes to graphic content.
The ESRB rating also confirms the presence of in-game purchases. While no specific details are provided, these are likely similar to microtransactions seen in previous Capcom titles, such as the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes.
Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to release on February 27 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
In other news, Resident Evil Requiem could receive a story DLC starring Alyssa Ashcroft.
