EVGA Upgrades GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 with 11 Gbps Memory

EVGA has upgraded their GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 graphics cards with faster 11 Gbps memory but unlike some other manufacturers, they are also giving existing users who previously purchased the GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 graphics cards the chance to upgrade via firmware. There is a caveat of course that not all GTX 1080 FTW2 and SC2 graphics cards previously purchased can run the updated BIOS firmware as stable as these new graphics cards, but it is still nice to have the option.

The EVGA GTX 1080 DT FTW2 runs at 1607MHz base clock with a 1733MHz boost clock, with a 8192MB GDDR5X memory that runs at 11016MHz, providing a total memory bandwidth of 352.51GB/s. There is also a regular FTW2 version that runs a faster 1721MHz base clock with 1860MHz boost clock.

The EVGA GTX 1080 SC2 on the other hand runs slightly faster than the DT FTW2 out of the box at 1708MHz base clock which boosts up to 1847MHz, although it also has 8192MB GDDR5X memory that is running at 11016MHz memory clock. The GTX 1080 FTW2 is priced at $559 USD while the GTX 1080 SC2 is priced at $569 USD. Both video cards feature EVGA’s iCX 9-sensor technology and RGB LEDs.

The most affordable option for the EVGA GTX 1080 11Gbps cards however is the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 GAMING (08G-P4-6581-KR) available for only $539 and has a 1607MHz base clock with 1733MHz boost clock.

For existing users, you can head over to the EVGA forums to download the 11Gbps firmware BIOS updates. There is also a walk-through available there as well as the original BIOS files in case users want to revert if unstable.
