Users who check their Facebook walls frequently are finding soaring levels of mobile data usage thanks to the newly introduced auto-play video settings. MoneySavingExpert.com reports that they had “seen many complaints from people who have been stung with data bills after exceeding their monthly allowance and who believe it to be because of Facebook auto-playing videos.”
By default, the app places all videos to an auto-play setting – even when using mobile data. Users were disgruntled by the changes imposed earlier this year by Facebook – and it would seem that many users are unaware of the relatively simple solution – you can disable auto-play from within the settings within the Facebook app.
If you’re concerned about your data usage – or wanting to save on your phone bill by the end of the month, you’d be best to it turn off.
