Facezam Uses Face Recognition to Let You Creep on Facebook Profiles

A UK startup has launched a new app for finding Facebook users by using a photo of their face that is sure to benefit creepy stalkers and their trademark creepy stalking. Facezam allows users to snap a photo of someone and find their Facebook profile using facial recognition, though the app seems to be in violation of Facebook’s terms of service.

“Facezam is the Shazam for faces,” the company claims. “Take a photo of anyone, Facezam it and you can find their Facebook profile in less than ten seconds.”

“Our technology searches through billions of profiles, giving you a match that is 70% accurate,” the homepage adds. “So that beautiful girl you see on the train every day? Take a photo of her, Facezam it and you can find her on Facebook in a matter of seconds. The rest is up to you.”

Giving “that beautiful girl you see on the train every day” as an example of its use isn’t even trying to hide the creepy stalker overtones inherent in the app. Jack Kenyon, founder of Facezam, went even further, saying that the software is intended to kill any concept of privacy or anonymity.

“Facezam could be the end of our anonymous societies,” Kenyon told The Telegraph. “Users will be able to identify anyone within a matter of seconds, which means privacy will no longer exist in public society.”

The app may not last very long, though, since Facebook has already made it clear that it is in breach of the social network’s privacy agreement.

“This activity violates our terms and we’re reaching out to the developer to ensure they bring their app into compliance,” a Facebook spokesperson said.
