For quite some time now, a team of Sonic fans named Gistix has been hard at work on their own PC remake of Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, and it looks like their long hours have yielded something very promising and interesting, as the game in question has just received its first public demo. Powered by the Unity Engine, the game certainly looks decent, to say the least, and judging from the demo video that we’ve seen, the team did a good job with the animations, textures, and effects. Just in case you’re not too familiar with this title, Sonic 06 is a platform game that allows players to use the Sonic, Shadow, and Silver characters in order to complete various stages.
Considering the fact that this is based on a commercial title, some of you might be worried about a potential takedown by the original creators of the game. However, SEGA is well-known for supporting mods and remakes, which is why this particular project should be relatively safe. Those of you who would like to try out the public demo, can always go ahead and download it right here. Before you do, though, you might want to have a look at the following gameplay trailer.
