Far Cry 4 Graphics on Xbox One & PS4 Equal to PC… I Smell Bull$***

Ubisoft have got balls, I’ll give them that. Once again they’ve made the stupid claim that their next game, Far Cry 4, will perform just as well on the latest Sony and Microsoft consoles as it will on a high-end PC. Now you know as well as I do, consoles are great for gaming and the new ones are capable of churning out some pretty decent visual effects, but PC is leaps and bounds ahead, especially a high-end PC, which to my mind is something in the region of £700 / $1000 worth of hardware.

“We want the gameplay experience to be the same on all platforms so we’re leaning on technical differences. Everything you see, whether it’s the fur on the animals, the grass on the ground or the leaves on the trees. All these things are bumped up a huge amount in the next gen version”. said Alex Hutchinson, Far Cry 4’s Creative Director when speaking with Major Nelson.

Not only have Ubisoft upset people recently with Watch Dogs, first by launching a buggy game, but for also “gimping” their PC release, removing graphical features to knock it down a few pegs and making it look similar to their console releases. This has left people to hack and modify their own game (ironic given the nature of the game) to make it perform as well as it should have, based on Ubisofts original footage of the game. Now it looks like they’re either going to do the same with Far Cry, either that or they’ve managed to find a way of performing magic using limited hardware, which they haven’t.

“We develop on PC primarily, which is actually unusual. With Assassin’s Creed, we develop on console, so we start at that and we push the boundary of the console as hard as we can. But because we develop on PC, you’ve never really seen on console the ultra-high PC version before”. said Hutchinson. “So even out of the box, even day one, we just stuck the code on the new consoles and we were able to dial it all the way up. So as a console player you’re already getting by far the best version we can ship”.

It’s that last part that stinks of bull$*** to be honest, another prime example of PR and marketing hyping up nonsense about their work, something which I fully expect them to retract once players actually get their hands on it. Lets just hope they’re only talking up the console editions for better sales, and that they haven’t gimped the PC release like they did with WatchDogs.
