Faster Memory ASUS GTX 1080 11Gbps and GTX 1060 9Gbps Video Cards Now Available

Since NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 graphics cards are being re-issued with faster 11Gbps and 9Gbps memory options, ASUS is adding one of each to their lineup starting with the ROG STRIX GeForce GTX 1080 11Gbps and the GTX 1060 9Gbps OC Edition. The GPU core remains the same but the faster memory provides significantly improved bandwidth over the original versions. NVIDIA has also lowered the price compared to when they were initially launched, now priced $499 for the standard version and the custom partner cards adding a few dollars more depending on the feature set.

The ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080 11Gbps (part number: ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-11GBPS) retains the impressive flagship feature set it has adding the improved performance. It is outfitted with three IP5X fans, resistant to dust and runs quietly with the ability to shut itself down when the loads are low enough. It also has custom VRM, die cast brace plate and nickel plated copper heatpipe heatsink with an integrated backplate for optimal rigidity that resists sagging over time. Its memory runs at 11010 MHz in Gaming Mode or 11100 MHz in OC Mode, with its GPU core clock operating at 1695 MHz that boosts up to 1835 MHz in OC mode, while operating at 1721/1860 MHz in gaming mode.

The ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 9Gbps OC Edition (part number: GTX1060-O6G-9GBPS) uses a dual IP5X fan solution on its DirectCU II cooling system, which uses four thick 8mm nickel-plated copper heatpipes distributing heat into a large aluminum fin array. The DirectCU II heatsink actually extends much further than the PCB and is quite substantial. To help prevent PCB sagging with such a heavy heatsink, ASUS has outfitted the GTX 1060 9Gbps OC Edition with a full-cover metal backplate. ASUS has also pushed the memory clock beyond the standard running at 9100 MHz under OC mode and 9026 MHz while in gaming mode. The GPU core clock starts at 1594 MHz  and boosts up to 1809 MHz in gaming mode, while it runs at 1620 MHz with a 1847 MHz boost under OC mode.

Both the ASUS ROG STRIX GTX 1080 11Gbps and ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 9Gbps OC Edition provide a DVI-D port in the rear, with two DisplayPorts and two HDMI ports.
