Whole Home WiFi Upgrade

Netgear is announcing the launch of their new Nighthawk X6 EX7700 Tri-band WiFi mesh extender. The device is an easy-to-use and set-up upgrade for providing whole home WiFi coverage. Without shelling out money for an entirely new home network WiFi system.

The Nighthawk X6 EX7700 works with existing home networks and does not require matching Netgear hardware. Which is great news since most routers provided by cable modem companies tend to be inadequate when it comes to coverage.

The EX7700 is one of the most advanced tri-band WiFi mesh extenders. It provides 400Mbps @ 2.4GHz on the first band, and 866Mbps @ 5GHz for the other two. Each unit also comes with a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports for hard-wiring devices or PCs into.

The device has four internal anntenas and one of these is enough to cover 2,000 square feet.

How Much is the Netgear Nighthawk X6 EX7700?

Availability starts in a few weeks, however users can now pre-order the device via Amazon. It has an MSRP of $149.99, which is a fairly decent alternative to shelling out $299.99 for a two-piece mesh kit. Especially if you already have an 802.11ac router from your Internet provider.

Mysterious Overwatch Announcement

Blizzard‘s official Overwatch Twitter account posted what appears to be an extremely cryptic teaser video recently.

It is only six seconds long showing what appears to be an almost static shot of a poster and grafitti-laden alleyway. Without the smoke coming out from the sewer-grate behind the box, it looks like a still image.

There is also a continuous sound in the background resembling a plane or a jet flying overhead.

Furthermore, the tweet is accompanied by an equally cryptic caption “the calm before the storm“.

What Does This Mean?

Although casual players might not understand what it means. Overwatch players who follow the lore and the recent map changes can take this as a teaser for the next hero release. Specifically, it most likely points to Hammond, the only other specimen who escaped from the Horizon Lunar Colony.

Overwatch Teases Next Announcement with Cryptic Video

Specimen 28, otherwise known as Winston is now leading the newly re-formed Overwatch. However, Hammond aka Specimen 8 who also escaped the moon-base colony is still unaccounted for.

The most recent changes in the PTR update also points to his arrival in the game. Namely, one of the specimen rooms which was formerly closed-off is now open. This is where Hammond slept, while Winston’s room is beside it.

The cryptic video shows an old poster of the test subject monkeys front and center, along with some anti-Omnic grafitti. The latter is most likely a hint of where he is. Possibly hiding in Omnic ghettos.

If Hammond harbours resentment against humans who performed experiments on him, this makes sense.

What Does Lucio Have To Do With It?

Overwatch Teases Next Announcement with Cryptic Video

The obvious question is, what does the poster of Lucio’s concert and the soccer ball have to do with it? At first glance, that might be because this alleyway is in Brazil where Lucio is from. However, the posters are all in English instead of Portuguese so that is unlikely.

It could be a teaser for another thing entirely. Specifically, an animated short featuring Lucio. Blizzard has not released one in a while. The last being ‘Honor and Glory’ back in November 2017.

Besides, Lucio’s back story is not as fleshed out as other characters, so it is high time he finally got his spotlight.

As usual, we would just have to wait and see what this could really mean. What do you think?

Gears of War 5 Coming to PC

The next installment of the Gears of War series is heading to Windows PCs just like GoW 4. Now simply called “Gears 5”, the series also takes a slightly different direction this time around.

For the first time, a female protagonist Kate Diaz takes the lead of the usually hyper-testosterone group. This is just one of the several efforts that Microsoft is doing to make the “(GoW) franchise more approachable”.

Gears 5 is 'Built From the Ground up for PC' Says Studio Head

Microsoft is also courting PC gamers by optimizing the game for various configurations.

“Having a game that we’re building from the ground up for PC [means players] will be able to take advantage of all the types of different PC optimisation options you can have.” Says Rod Fergusson, Coalition Studio chief.

While the Xbox One X version is aiming for a 60FPS 4K standard, PC users can scale the graphical settings up, and push to 120FPS. That is if they have the hardware.

What Other Gears Games Are Coming to the PC?

With Gears 5 being the obvious tent-pole title in the series, Microsoft actually intends to release one more game for the PC. A strategy game called Gears Tactics will be launching as well, and it will be out exclusively for PCs. This makes sense considering a keyboard and mouse combo is ideal for strategy game controls.

Gears Tactics is a turn-based strategy game set, 12 years prior to the first GoW game. IGN has the mirror for the gameplay teaser video Microsoft showed at E3 2018.

This is not the first time Microsoft adapted a shooter game into a strategy game. They have done this before with Halo Wars back in 2009. However, hopefully they are more successful this time around.

Samsung Launches 8TB NF1 NVMe SSD For Data Centers

Fast and Large Capacity Enterprise Storage Solution

Samsung has announced new 8TB NVMe SSDs in an NF1 form factor for enterprise use. This is the largest NVMe solid state drive capacity from the company to date, designed for data centers. Despite the large capacity, Samsung manages to fit it in a compact NF1 form factor, measuring 11cm x 3.05cm. This is only slightly wider than an M.2 drive which measures 11cm x 2.2cm. What Samsung is aiming for is to displace 2.5″ NVMe SSDs entirely with this high-density 8TB NF1 drive.

How Does Samsung Fit 8TB On This Drive?

Samsung Launches 8TB NF1 NVMe SSD For Data Centers

This drive uses 16 pieces of 512GB NAND. Each chip has 16 layers of 256 Gigabit V-NAND with 3-bits per cell. 72 NF1 SSDs can combine to offer the world’s highest storage density of 576TB in 2U servers. The drive also comes with 12GB of LPDDR4 DRAM for cache, allowing it to handling data-intensive tasks swiftly.

When it comes to performance, the 8TB SSD uses a brand new controller supporting the NVMe 1.3 protocol and PCIe 4.0. Expect sequential read speeds of up to 3,100 MB/s. Meanwhile sequential write speeds reach about 2,000 MB/s. As for IOPS, random reads reach 500,000 while random writes rate at 50,000 IOPS.

Using the new NF1 storage solution, an enterprise server system can perform over one million IOPS in a 2U rack space. Which is significantly enhancing the return on investment for next-generation large-scale data centers.

Ni No Kuni 2 Launches New Patch For Increased Difficulty

Ni No Kuni 2 launched earlier this year and I think it’s pretty safe to say that most fans have absolutely loved it. Adding new features to the previous game, the adventure in itself was great fun and I must confess, I’m still playing it now. The little matter of Final Fantasy XV releasing around the same time has been a factor in that, but regardless, I’m still playing Ni No Kuni 2.

As a means of attempting to keep the game fresh though, developer Level-5 has just released a new patch. One specifically to increase the difficulty of the game.

Hard and Expert Mode!

Ni No Kuni 2 has introduced new difficulty modes to try and make the game a bit harder. In fairness, while the base game it itself isn’t easy, there aren’t massive levels of challenge either. Therefore the inclusion, if for no other reason than to try and get people to make a 2nd attempt at the game, seems like a great idea.

The increased difficult does, however, come with some benefits. For example, harder difficulties will reward players with stronger items and more currency. As such, your battles might be tougher, but you’ll get better loot for your trouble. It should, however, do far more to the game than just making it harder.

Adding More Life To The Game

One of the biggest problems that face games like Ni No Kuni is that once you have completed it, there often isn’t much reason to have another go. I mentioned Final Fantasy XV earlier. Having completed that, I currently have no inclination to give it another try. With an increased difficulty mode though, Ni No Kuni 2 might have just grown some fresh legs.

What do you think? Have you played Ni No Kuni 2? – Let us know in the comments!

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC? Yes, please!

Rockstar’s upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 is perhaps the most anticipated game of the year, and rightfully so. The first installment in the series is one of the best action-adventure games ever made. Furthermore, the second game is expected to be even more impressive. However, official news has it that PC gamers won’t get to enjoy it at all. At the time of writing, only the PS4 and Xbox One version are confirmed. Fans are hoping for a PC version at later date, much like GTA V, but maybe not a full two years later. Moreover, a recent piece of news seems to confirm a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Who discovered this?

A Reddit user that goes by the name of “theinsightfulwatcher” has recently stumbled upon the LinkedIn page of an unnamed Rockstar developer in Leeds. The developer’s profile lists Red Dead Redemption 2 for PS4/Xbox1/PC, which indeed seems to confirm a PC version. Whether this is an unofficial confirmation or just a mistake, it remains to be seen. Still, it does give us some hope.

However, if you are a console gamer, we should remind you that you can currently pre-order RDR 2. If you do it through the Microsoft Store, you’ll also receive a few GTA V Online goodies. Red Dead Redemption 2 will release for current-gen consoles on October 27th.

Corsair Strafe RGB MK.2 MX Silent Mechnical Keyboard Review

Strafe RGB MK.2

As one of the biggest names ever to grace the PC hardware market, Corsair has a very big reputation to live up to. Their Strafe keyboard, in fact, any of their keyboards, are widely regarded as some of the best in the world. The Strafe is still a popular choice for many PC gamers, but Corsair think they can do even better! Enter the Strafe MK.2, which promises fully Cherry MX switches, powerful onboard lighting technology, macros, profile storage, USB pass through, dedicated multimedia controls and more!

Can it live up to the reputation of its older brother? Most likely, they’ve not tinkered with the formula too much, and I suspect many of these changes will be subjective. Most importantly, the switches are drastically different. Cherry MX Silent are pretty new switches, and while I love them, others may still favour the standard Red or other switch variants; of course, that’s the subjective part I’m referring to.

Features

  • 100% CHERRY MX Silent RGB Mechanical Switches: Experience the performance and competitive advantage of mechanical keys, with 30% less noise
  • 8MB On-board Profile Storage: Saves lighting effects and macros for universal access to your profiles on any PC, without the need for drivers or additional software.
  • Dynamic Multicolour Per-key Backlighting: Vivid dynamic multi-colour RGB per-key backlighting offers near unlimited colour customization and control.
  • Dedicated Volume and Multimedia Controls: Control to adjust audio on-the-fly, without interrupting your game.
  • USB Pass-Through Port: Provides convenient access to an additional USB port for your mouse or headset.

What Corsair Had to Say

“The next-generation CORSAIR STRAFE RGB MK.2 mechanical keyboard features 100% CHERRY MX Silent RGB keyswitches for key presses that are up to 30% quieter, alongside 8MB onboard profile storage to take your gaming profiles with you.
” – Corsair

What’s in the Box?

Obviously, there’s a keyboard in the box. However, you’ll also get a lovely detachable wrist rest, key cap puller, and some custom caps.

The gaming keycaps are a nice addition, at least for those using the keyboard mostly for gaming. They use a custom grip and shape for improved control. However, their shape may be distracting for those using the keyboard just to type their work emails.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

Is your PC good enough for Resident Evil 2 Remake?

We’ve known that a remake of the classic Resident Evil 2 from 1998 was in the works for a while now. However, Capcom has just decided to reveal some extra information about the game via its official Steam page. We’re talking about PC system requirements, of course, which are relatively mild, to be honest. It’s been 20 years since Resident Evil 2 originally came out for Windows and various consoles. Now, come January 25th, the remake will need an Intel Core i5-4460 or an AMD FX-6300 at its bare minimum. When it comes to RAM, 8GB is listed on both the minimum and recommended tabs, which is a bit weird.

What about the Graphics Card requirements?

CAPCOM Remaking Resident Evil 2 for PlayStation 4

You’ll be able to get by with a GeForce GTX 760 or an AMD Radeon R7 260, but you should really aim for a GeForce GTX 1060 or an AMD Radeon RX 480. As for the recommended CPU requirements, they list an Intel Core i7-3770 or an AMD FX-9590. Below you will find a complete list of PC requirements for Resident Evil 2 Remake. Are you looking forward to this upcoming game?

MINIMUM:

    • OS: WINDOWS® 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
    • Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX™-6300 or better
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 760 or AMD Radeon™ R7 260x with 2GB Video RAM
    • DirectX: Version 11

RECOMMENDED:

    • OS: WINDOWS® 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
    • Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-3770 or AMD FX™-9590 or better

Shadowrun Returns Is Free For A Limited Time On The Humble Bundle

Shadowrun is one of those franchises that definitely deserves more love and attention than it has. When the original game launched on the SNES, it was perhaps one of the greatest RPG’s ever released. If not, it was certainly one of the best available on the Super Nintendo.

With a sequel, that completely failed to capture the essence of the original, a Kickstarter was successfully ran to create a true follow up to the original game. Since it’s release 5 years ago, it has been widely praised as paying homage to the original but with a brand new and highly detailed story.

If you haven’t played it yet, I have good news for you. For a limited time, the Humble Bundle store is offering you the chance to claim this game for free!

What Is The Game About?

Shadowrun is an isometric style RPG game set in a dystopian future. Similar in style to the original Fallout games, Shadowrun is a heavily RPG inspired game which has combat, tactics, and diplomacy in equal measure.

As part of the free promotion, you will not only receive the base game, but also the DLC pack. In addition, you will also get a copy of the game’s soundtrack. In terms of freebies, this one is truly excellent!

How Can I Claim My Copy?

To get your copy, all you need to do is create an account with Humble Bundle. To help you out, you can visit the official website here.

From there, you will find the game prominently displayed on the desktop. Just add it to your basket, check-out and a link will be sent to your e-mail account. From here, you will be provided with another link which will lead you to a page revealing your Steam code.

With the weekend approaching, this is a fantastic game to try out. Be prepared though, if you’re expecting a 10 hours experience, 30 hours later you might be wondering how that happened!

What do you think? Are you a fan of Shadowrun? In addition, are you going to claim your free copy? – Let us know in the comments!

PC Building Simulator Adds Overclocking Feature To Game

PC Building Simulator launched earlier this and I must confess, I have been a massively open fan of the game. Allowing people to simulate building their dream PC’s, this game has done a lot (educationally) to dispell some of the rumors that PC building is difficult. Just while on that point, it isn’t necessarily easy, in fact, your first build is always the most terrifying, but once you know how, it’s actually quite straightforward.

The ‘game’ has managed to continually grow since it’s release and has even managed to gain a lot of important partnerships with real-world component manufacturers.

In the latest update to the game, however, PC Building Simulator has added another one of the major key factors in system building design. Namely, the ability to overclock your computer.

Overclock ‘Till You Can’t Stop!

In a report via PCGamesN, the new update manages to effectively simulate overclocking on your dream PC. This includes BSOD’s if you push it too hard or throttling if your temperatures get too high. Just as it exactly would on a real-world PC.

Bear in mind that this game is still officially in early access. Despite that though this game is effectively managing to overcome the ‘novelty’ factor some may have perceived and this is now a full-blown genuine simulator which could have massive educational benefits.

Should I Try It?

I would wholeheartedly recommend PC Building Simulator. Yes, it is still in early access, but don’t let that put you off. In terms of you being able to build the system of your dreams or just learning about how computers are put together this is a fantastic bit of software and with more and more updates making it better, you can’t go wrong here.

What do you think? – Let us know in the comments!

The Steam Summer Sale Launches And We Pick Our Best Of The Offers!

It came a little earlier than we expected it. We actually even noticed it before it launched as for around 10 minutes the Steam store page went alarmingly black. The Steam Summer Sale, however, is officially upon us!

Yes, it’s that time again where you either need to brace your wallet or hide your bank cade as Steam tries to tempt you into some big discount gaming delights.

In what is becoming something of a custom for us here at eTeknix, we’ve gone through the sale to pick out what we consider to be some of the best deals on offer. Let’s, therefore, take a look at what should be tempting you!

The Witcher 3 GOTY Edition – £13.99

The Witcher 3 is hardly a new game, but that shouldn’t detract from the fact that is it still one of the best RPG’s ever made. That mantle may iconically only be taken at the release of Cyberpunk 2077 which is being created by the same developer. Even so, 3 years on from its release, The Witcher 3 still looks fantastic and for £13.99 you have literally a potential of hundreds of hours of gaming here.

Official Final Fantasy XV PC System Requirements Listed

Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition – £17.49

Despite this game only having released literally just a few months ago, Final Fantasy XV is part of a massive 50% discount on Steam. The game does have its problems, but in terms of visuals, characters, the free DLC and overall atmosphere, you will forgive them. In terms of graphical performance, Final Fantasy XV is one of the best looking games currently out there. This alone should make it worth the admission price. A point I’m often arguing against!

gta v

Grand Theft Auto 5 – £13.19

Ok, so the chances are that you have probably already played this game. There is, however, still a large number of people who might have completed this on a console but haven’t got around to playing it on PC yet. I myself was in that camp until a couple years ago and I must say that the PC version is absolutely fantastic. Even despite the games age, it still looks and plays fantastically. The online mode is a mixed bag, but for £13.19, this is well worth the price to play through just the offline story again.

Koei Tecmo Announces Nioh: Complete Edition for PC

Nioh Complete Edition – £23.99

This is the most expensive game on our list, but in terms of an experience, this is definitely well worth it. If you haven’t played Nioh yet, think of it as Dark Souls set in feudal Japan. As such, there are a lot of weapons and items and hard boss fights. Despite this though, Nioh is a little bit more friendly (just a little) and as such the more casual fans of action/adventure games though find this interesting.

It should be noted that this price does include all of the DLC, so you are getting a lot of game for your money here.

dark souls 2

Dark Souls 2 – Scholar of the First Sin – £7.49

At the moment everyone might be cooing over Dark Souls Remastered, but that doesn’t mean that you should forget the 2nd game in the series. Personally, I have always considered Dark Souls 2 to be the most accessible and arguably best ‘game’ in the series. Don’t get me wrong, I think that Dark Souls 1 has the better story and more iconic bosses, but Dark Souls 2 is the better game. I would always recommend to anyone new to the series that Dark Souls 2 is the best starting point as it has some of the biggest challenges, but is also perhaps the most forgiving.

In addition, with ‘Scholar’ including all the DLC, I should point out that I think the DLC for Dark Souls 2 is the best throughout the entire trilogy.

For just £7.49 I can’t recommend this game enough. You probably won’t forgive me though if you do end up buying it.

What Do You Think?

We’ve covered out top 5 games we believe to be currently for sale, but what do you think?

With Valve removing the Flash Sales, it’s unlikely that we’re going to have any more surprises, but are there any games you think are a bargain that we missed out? – Let us know in the comments!

Specifically, the girls are from Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online, which is a hack+slash JRPG game running on the Unreal Engine. This of course, has hilarious, but oddly fitting results. Especially since the mod only changes the character models, while the voices remain the gruff original.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 itself is not a new fresh game, originally coming out in 2015, and even then was somewhat underwhelming. So this mod certainly is a welcome change from the default. See the mod in action for yourself below:

Where Do I Get This Mod?

First of all, you can grab this Call of Duty: Neptunia Ops III mod via the Loyalist’s Workshop Steam page. It features 10 Neptunia characters including Neptune, Nepgear, IF, Noire, Uni, Blanc, Rom, Ram, Vert and Kurome. All in high quality, professional-looking models and textures. The shaders are quite polished as well. Which is why it seems to fit so well.

Call of Duty Mod Hilariously Replaces Soldiers With Anime Girls

The mod is the labour of love by six contributors:  Compile Heart, Idea Factory, Tamsoft, Kuroyasviel, RandomTBush and Loyalists. They also provide a quick guide in installing the mod through this link.

Note that this mod is not compatible for public matches. That is a limit set by developer Treyarch themselves. However, the mod works perfectly fine in campaign mode, zombies and multiplayer.

High-Performance SO-DIMM DDR4 from TeamGroup

Memory manufacturer TeamGroup has launched new SO-DIMM DDR4 modules for their T-FORCE Vulcan series. Just like the desktop DDR4 T-FORCE Vulcan modules, these new SO-DIMM memory is built for high-performance. With its more compact SO-DIMM form factor, it fits perfectly well inside laptops as well as Intel NUC mini-PCs.

Since they are for high-performance use, the modules come with a custom heatspreader. This allows for better thermal dissipation in comparison to bare PCBs. Since clearances can be tight in SFF and laptops, TeamGroup uses graphene copper-foil. This ensures that the heatspreader is thin enough without causing clearance issues.

TeamGroup Announces New T-FORCE Vulcan SO-DIMM DDR4

How Fast Are These DDR4 Modules?

TeamGroup offers the SO-DIMM T-FORCE Vulcan in speeds of 2400MHz or 2666MHz. The 2400MHz version has CL15-17-17-35 timings, while the 2666Mhz version runs with CL18-18-18-38 timings.

As usual these are fully Intel XMP 2.0 compatible, which means users can easily load the OC presets without manually tweaking. Just like their desktop equivalent.

What Capacity Options Are Available?

TeamGroup offers these T-FORCE Vulcan RAM in single 4GB, 8GB and 16GB units. It is also available in pairs with 8GB(2x4GB),  16GB (2x8GB), 32GB (2x16GB) capacities.

All come with a limited lifetime warranty coverage.

Have GPU, Will Benchmark

Helsinki-based Basemark has launched their new Basemark GPU benchmark. Unlike other desktop benchmarking tools however, this one is compatible with smartphones as well.

It uses Basemark’s industrial grade graphics & compute engine called Rocksolid. The result is AAA quality game-like workload for desktop platforms as well as a similar, but lighter workload for mobile devices.

It is written in C++ and platform independent. Furthermore, it allows for truly objective and efficient multi-platform benchmarking according to the company statement.

Two presets area available upon launch: High and Medium. High is ideal for testing desktop PC GPU performance, while Medium is suitable for mobile testing.

Where Can I Download Basemark GPU Benchmark v1.0?

You can grab it directly form their website or on the Google Play store for Android. Version 1.0 supports OpenGL 4.5, OpenGL ES 3.1, and Vulkan 1.0 and is compatible with Windows, and Linux. Apple iOS support is incoming, together with Microsoft DirectX and Apple Metal support.

Two versions are available: Free and Corporate. The Free version always submits all the official scores automatically to the Basemark Power Board. Meanwhile, the Corporate version provides the option to withhold the result. Obviously the Corporate version is ideal for developers to test unreleased hardware or prototypes.

Crucial Improves MX500 Performance

A new firmware update is available for Crucial‘s MX500 series of solid state drives. This new firmware version M3CR022 is an optional update from version M3CR010. Aiming to address various performance improvements including:

  • Ready time from DEVSLP low-power state.
  • TRIM and Wear Leveling performance.
  • SATA error handing.
  • Compatibility with some TCG Opal 2.0 third-party encryption utilities (this change does not affect MS BitLocker).

It applies to all MX500 form factors, including both 2.5-inch and M.2 NGFF.

Crucial Rolls Out New Improvement Firmware for MX500 SSDs

The Crucial MX500 is the first consumer product to use Micron’s 64-layer 3D TLC NAND. This 2nd gen 3D NAND comes in a stackable 64-layer design for a 256-gigabit component. The NAND uses a ‘CMOS Under the Array’ design as Micron calls it, which allows them to minimize the footprint of the die.

If you are interested in seeing how well this drive performs, you can read the full review of the 1TB version of the Crucial MX500 here at eTeknix. The drive has earned our ‘Innovation Award’.

Where Can I Download This Firmware Update?

Introducing the RIG 500 PRO Series

Plantronics has launched their new RIG 500 PRO series of gaming headsets. It features a unique exoskeleton earcup design with isolated inner acoustic chambers for distortion reduction.

The Plantronics headset series comes in five different variants: standard, HX, HS, HC, and eSports Edition.

The RIG 500 PRO HS is specifically for use with Sony’s PlayStation 4 console. Meanwhile, the RIG 500 PRO HX variant is for Microsoft’s Xbox One. A RIG 500 PRO HC version also exists which is compatible with both consoles.

The standard RIG 500 PRO however is for the PC and comes with a gold band accent colour as well as an inline controller. The HS/HX/HC variants are entirely black with the exception of a gold ring accent around the ear cups. Lastly, the eSports edition is for universal compatibility and is entirely black.

The construction materials also vary between each model. The console variants for example use entirely lightweight ABS. Meanwhile, the PC version comes with a stronger metal band but otherwise also uses lightweight ABS for the exoskeleton. The eSports Edition however uses significantly toughter die-cast aluminium for the band and exoskeleton.

Otherwise, all four share a similar features. All four use 50mm high-sensitivity drivers and dual-material ear cushions.

How Much Are These Headsets?

Both the officially licensed Plantronics RIG 500 PRO HX and HS are available for $79.99.  The standard RIG 500 PRO for the PC which comes with a metal headband and inline volume cable costs $20 more at $99.99.

The universal RIG 500 PRO eSports Edition with its die-cast metal frame and headband costs almost twice as much as the HS and HX variants at $149.99.

Intel CEO Resigns Following Discovery of Affair With Employee

Impromptu Leadership Change

Brian Krzanich has stepped down as Intel CEO and as board member following revelation of a past consensual relationship with an Intel employee. The company has a non-fraternization policy in place, which also applies to all managers.

The confirmation of the affair violating the company policy comes from an ongoing investigation by internal and external counsel.

For now, the board names Chief Financial Officer Robert Swan interim Chief Executive Officer effective immediately in his stead.

Krzanich has been with Intel since 1982, starting out as an engineer until taking on the CEO position in 2013. He is also married with two children.

How Does This Affect Intel?

“The board believes strongly in Intel’s strategy and we are confident in Bob Swan’s ability to lead the company as we conduct a robust search for our next CEO. Bob has been instrumental to the development and execution of Intel’s strategy, and we know the company will continue to smoothly execute. We appreciate Brian’s many contributions to Intel,” said Chairman Andy Bryant.

Swan has been with chipzilla since only October 2016. However, he spent nine years as Chief Financial Officer of eBay prior. Swan also served as CFO at Electronic Data Systems and TRW Inc.

According to the board, they are looking at both internal and external candidates to fill the role. Until then, they have “a robust succession planning process in place”.

PUBG Releases Trailer Showcasing Brand New Map

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds might be struggling in recent months as Fortnite continues to leave it in its wake, but that doesn’t mean that they have given up. At least, not yet.

Despite it suffering from cheaters and significant player drops, PUBG is still something of a gaming force to be reckoned with. As such, a brand new trailer has been released showcasing a new map to be introduced in the game.

PUBG vs Fortnite

In fairness, it’s hard to deny that while PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds had the initial success, Fortnite were the ones who really capitalized on it. The strange thing is that between the two games, I massively prefer PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. I am, however, very much in the minority here I suspect. Despite that, though I have regularly played PUBG, is perhaps a little less frequently than when it first released.

As such, I am genuinely interested in a brand new map and from what can be seen in the trailer it does look good. In terms of whether this will be enough to savage PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, I doubt it. I think the damage has been done.

When is it released?

The new PUBG map is going to be available as part of an update scheduled to release tomorrow. As above, I am a fan of this game and I hope that this can, at least in some small way, help it reclaim some of the glory it was enjoying this time last year. That being said though, I don’t think, no matter what happens, PUBG will ever again catch up to Fortnite.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to the new map? Which do you prefer PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds or Fortnite? Can PUBG be saved or at least resurrected? – Let us know in the comments!

Tech Industry Whistleblowers May Be Able To Access A Witness Protection Program

Within the technology industry, there are probably a lot of ongoing practices that many of us wouldn’t approve of. This does occasionally lead to ‘whistleblowers’ coming out to the media to report what they consider to be major wrongdoing. One of the most notable examples of this was Edward Snowden and the matter regarding the NSA. Another such example would be Wikileaks’, Julian Assange.

In fairness, your opinion on these two may not necessarily be in support of them. I must admit that I’m not particularly sympathetic to the former, but perhaps more so to the latter. What is clear, however, is that their lives have been ruined or at least significantly impacted because they believed that there was a public right to know something that was being hidden.

The Signals Network

An American non-profit organization, however, might have the answer to help encourage more to step forward. The Signals Network is a non-profit organization which is openly looking to encourage more ‘whistleblowing’ in the technology industry.

Upon someone coming forward, a group working with the organization will decide whether the ‘leak’ was sufficient enough to warrant the person requiring protection. If it is the case, then they may very well arrange for you to be sequestered in a ‘witness protection program’ style case.

Is Such A Thing Really Necessary?

A bit dramatic I know. If this can, however, potentially help encourage the next person who feels something wrong is happening at their tech firm to come forward, then all the better.

What do you think? Is such an organisation a good idea? Is it a little excessive? – Let us know in the comments!

Introduction

evga supernova 750 g3

EVGA Supernova 750 G3 Gold Power Supply

Between their power supplies, cooling options, and graphics card ranges, EVGA has built a reputation as being one of the best in the business. Their products speak of a quality design, performance, and reliability. Three key points that should be top of your list when it comes to choosing your next power supply.

Given the importance of your power supply, it is perhaps one of the best value for money decisions to get the best you can afford that meets the demands of your system. One of the key factors in this is efficiency. Bad efficiency means more energy required to power your PC. Going cheap in this regard will ultimately risk your PC and, at the very least, cost you at the electric meter.

With the EVGA Supernova series, we have already seen some pretty impressive power supplies. The latest to hit our bench, however, is now the EVGA Supernova 750 G+ gold rated, fully modular, power supply. With this being the next model following the G2 line of products, we expect big things from this. Well, it is an EVGA product after all!

Features

With a 750w output, this power supply clearly has a lot of punch. Combined with the gold efficiency rating it should also be able to get that power where it needs to go and in a very streamlined manner. With a fully modular cable system and 100% Japanese capacitors this power supply has everything, at least on the surface, that the more discerning purchaser will want to see.

  • Unbeatable EVGA 10 Year Warranty and unparalleled EVGA Customer Support
  • 80 PLUS Gold certified, with 90% (115VAC) / 92% (220VAC~240VAC) efficiency or higher under typical loads
  • Highest quality Japanese brand capacitors ensure long-term reliability
  • Fully Modular to reduce clutter and improve airflow
  • NVIDIA SLI & AMD Crossfire Ready
  • Heavy-duty protections, including OVP (Over Voltage Protection), UVP (Under Voltage Protection), OCP (Over Current Protection), OPP (Over Power Protection), SCP (Short Circuit Protection), and OTP (Over Temperature Protection)
  • EVGA ECO Intelligent Thermal Control System eliminates fan noise at low to medium loads
  • Hydraulic Dynamic Bearing Fan for ultra-quiet operation and increased lifespan.

Specifications

For in-depth specifications, please visit the official EVGA Supernova 750 G3 product page here.

What EVGA Had to Say

“EVGA SuperNOVA power supplies are well-known for their extreme efficiency, performance and reliability. In fact, over the last 3 years, EVGA SuperNOVA power supplies have won over 70 awards from leading review sites. EVGA’s dedication to performance has forged the latest power supply platform: the EVGA SuperNOVA G3 Series. With these new power supplies, EVGA took the best features of the award-winning G2 lineup and made them ever better. The SuperNOVA G3’3 smaller size, improved performance and a new Hydraulic Dynamic Bearing fan give you ultra-quiet performance with an increase lifespan” – EVGA

Cables

As you would expect, EVGA has provided all the cables required to attach all your components. With the power supply being fully modular you get an excellent range of connectors. This means that nearly all users should have more than enough to hook up their PC while still probably having a decent amount left over for potential future use.

Fallout 76 Pip-Boy 2000 Construction Kit Available To Buy In Pre-Order

One of the most iconic parts of the Fallout franchise in recent years has been the Pip-Boy. That little computer that straps to your arm which, as far as the game is concerned, largely works as the main source of interaction. For many, owning one of these would be the ultimate nerd purchase for any fan of Fallout or gaming in general.

The good news is that if you want, you can actually buy a construction kit for one. Well, specifically pre-order, but with Fallout 76 not far away, you’re not going to have long to wait.

Shut Up And Take My Bottlecaps!

The construction kit is currently being offered for pre-order online by Think Geek. As a whole, the kit looks absolutely fantastic. It comes presented in a fantastic box and best of all, with some handy dandy 1950’s inspired instructions, you get to build the Pip-Boy yourself.

fallout 76 pip-boy pipboy

This is, of course, very much a direct tie-in to the upcoming release of Fallout 76. Even if it wasn’t though, I could still see this selling in incredible numbers. I must admit, I want one for myself!

How Much Is It?

The Fallout 76 Pip-Boy 2000 is currently being offered at pre-order for $149.99. While that might seem like a fair amount of money, I think it’s actually quite well priced. That’s just about the right amount that somebody would spend on an exclusive piece of gaming merchandise. We have, after all, seen people spend much more on those ridiculous ‘Gold Edition’ game release bundles.

You can visit the official store page for the product in the link here.

What do you think? Are you tempted to buy this just to have your very own Pip-Boy? In addition, are you looking forward to Fallout 76? – Let us know in the comments!

London Council Sent Emails Demanding Customers Bank Details By Return

I’d like to think that these days most people are pretty savvy that if you receive an e-mail asking you for your bank details its usually a scam. There are, after all, a lot of people out there who would like nothing better than to part you with your hard-earned money. You would not, however, expect a UK Borough Council to be asking you for this information. Especially for you to send it via e-mail.

In a report via the BBC, however, a London Borough Council has been doing exactly that and as such an investigation has been launched to determine how this occurred.

Parking Fines To Be Paid Via Emailed Bank Details!

In the report, it is suggested that Islington Council had been sending parking offenders e-mails. In them, they requested not only the offender’s bank details but also their address, 3 digit security code amongst other sensitive information. This was to be sent back to the council, again via e-mail, within a Microsoft Word document.

At this point, you might be thinking of this was an elaborate scam posing as the council. It seems, however, that this was legitimately conducted by the council. So if you did provide information from this, the good news is you were probably not scammed. The biggest concern, however, is why the council was asking for it in this method in the first place.

Investigation Underway!

A spokesperson for the local authority has said that a formal investigation has been launched into why this occurred. In the meantime, however, the method of receiving the e-mail (which appears to have been online) has been shut down. Most concerning though is that many people affected said that they contacted the council regarding this and were told that email was the only method to pay the fine.

I daresay some interesting conversations are going to be had at Islington Council.

What do you think? Are you surprised by this news? As legitimate as the source was, would you have still sent your information? In addition, why do you think such a strange system was implemented in the first place? – Let us know in the comments!

Instagram Now Has 700 Million Users—100 Million Added in Just Four Months

Instagram Launches Update To Increase Video Length From 60 Seconds Up To 1 Hour

Instagram is doubtlessly one of the most popular social media apps currently out there. Seemingly picking up the pieces that Facebook and Twitter keep shedding, in terms of social media it has one of the largest user bases out there. One of the biggest current limitations with the program though was the length of video allowed to be posted.

Up until now, videos had to be 60 seconds long or less. In a report via the BBC, however, Instagram has just launched a new feature which will allow videos of anything up to an hour to be posted on the social media app.

A New App

The new video format will be utilizing a new app called ‘IGTV’. From this, users will be able to post much longer videos to the social media site. There do, however, appear to still be some limitations as to exactly what you can do here. For example, Instagram has said that the videos posted will be in a portrait only format. This decision has likely been made due to the generally smaller size of the recording meaning that it can be uploaded/streamed faster by users.

Instagram has answered this by simply saying that portrait recording is just the standard for the method of recording on a phone. What isn’t currently clear, however is if Instagram plan to include adverts in the longer duration videos. Something that would see them treading on a few toes at YouTube.  The app, however, does have another use that will be of great interest to PC owners.

Desktop Program!

The new IGTV program will also be available as a PC application. From this videos can be uploaded and in addition, you can also get links to the video which you can post to your accounts.

This is an interesting development for the social media app. I am, however, not entirely certain if such a move was really necessary. I guess the users will answer that over the coming months based on how much they use it. It is, however, if nothing else, quite a step up from the current limitations Instagram videos have.

What do you think? – Let us know in the comments!

Aerodynamics Software Proves The Star Wars X-Wing and Tie Fighters Are Bad At Flying

In science fiction, there are very few spacecraft more iconic than the X-Wing and Tie Fighter. Ok, with the exception of those from Star Trek and, of course, the Millenium Falcon. It seems, however, that despite looking good, the X-Wing and Tie Fighters specifically might be pretty awful at actually flying.

A YouTuber has posted a video showing that both of these crafts would actually be pretty awful at flying through an atmosphere. Therefore, them gracefully leaving the surface of a planet might be a little artistic license.

Both Are Essentially Flying Bricks

EC Henry posted a YouTube video in which he uploaded the Star Wars aircraft into an aerodynamic software program. From this, he was able to determine that specifically, the X-Wing and Tie Fighters would be pretty awful at flying in an atmosphere. The tests showed that both vehicles essentially have very little going for them in terms of flying. The Tie Fighter specifically is no better than putting wings on a brick.

In the test, he checked our pretty much all of the rebel and empire fighting craft and found that in general, while they might look impressive, very few would do well flying on a planet. I must confess, however, that I am a little disappointed he didn’t test out the Millenium Falcon.

They Fly In Space Though!

Yes, true, of all the fighters they are primarily designed to fly in space and as such air resistance is a bit of a pointless area. If nothing else though, it does prove that in terms of flying and landing on planets, these crafts would not be anywhere near as maneuvrable or graceful as they are zipping around Battle Cruisers.

New Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer from E3 Has A Hidden Message

Cyberpunk 2077 Will Not Have Any Loading Screens

In terms of anticipated titles, Cyberpunk 2077 is certain at the top of a lot of peoples list. With it promising to be one of the most fascinating and in-depth RPG’s for a long time (possibly ever), with such statements it’s hard to keep this hype train firmly planted on its tracks.

Some of the latest news regarding the game, however, is certainly very interesting. In a report via PCGamesN, it is reported that Cyberpunk 2077 will have NO loading screens.

CD Projekt Red

We are well used to seeing CD Projekt Red pulling off some impressive things in games. The Witcher 3 was an absolute delight from start to finish, but what was a particular highly (although perhaps you didn’t even notice it) was that it had so few loading screens. It seems that they now want to (or believe they can) take this to the next level with Cyberpunk 2077.

CD Projekt RED Responds to Ransom Demand for Stolen Cyberpunk 2077 Files

Now we all know that loading screens in games can be a bit frustrating. Generally speaking though, most games these days can get these to be as minimal as possible. The potential, however, to have no loading screens is certainly quite the claim. Particularly for a game that is set to have the scale and scope that Cyberpunk 2077 promises.

No Transitions At All!

Following the initial load of the game (it has to do that obviously) CD Projekt Red has assured us that it will be the only one we have. Even entering buildings will not cause for any disruption to the flow of the game.

Now, exactly how they are going to do this is unclear. If nothing else though, it’s quite a bold statement and for a game like this, would be fantastic to see.

Xbox One owners can play Warhammer Vermintide 2.

If you’re a fan of Warhammer Vermintide 2 and you own an Xbox One, you’ll now be able to participate in the game’s Beta phase.  Swedish developer Fatshark has also revealed the game’s release date not too long ago. Apparently, the official release date is on July 11th, which means that you still have a few weeks of beta testing ahead. Moreover, those of you who have Xbox Game Pass subscriptions will receive the game’s Standard Edition on launch day. There’s also a Premium Edition available, which will set you back $45. Warhammer Vermintide 2 originally came out for PC on March 8 this year. At the time of writing, the title enjoys a Steam rating of 7/10, which is not bad at all.

Fatshark CEO, Martin Wahlund, issued a statement.

“After the huge success with the release of Warhammer: Vermintide 2 on PC, we are happy and excited to bring the game to Xbox One. We can’t wait to stick it to the Skaven and Chaos on another platform.”

Apparently, the game will run at 4K resolution on the Xbox One, although we don’t have much information to share about the framerate. If you do get a chance to test this game before launch, do let us know how it performs!

California’s Proposed Net Neutrality Laws Get Gutted By Lawmakers

Following the abolition of Net Neutrality laws in the US, California was looking to try and reinstate them on a state level. The proposals they made would have seen some of the toughest laws implemented for the protection of the internet. Last week, things seemed to have taken a very positive step as the State Senate voted to pass the proposed laws. It seems, however, that these proposals have now largely been deemed useless.

As part of the process to draw it into law, the bill has been completely gutted by lawmakers. As such, the proposals have now been gutted to the point of being almost entirely useless.

Amendments Undermine The Proposal

With any proposal made to change the law, ultimately it must be ‘written-up’ by lawmakers. With the bill reaching this point in California, in a report via CNET, amendments made to allow it to comply has completely undermined the whole ethos of the movement. As such, in its current form, the proposal is entirely useless and has been dubbed ‘fake net neutrality’.

Canada Officially Strengthens Commitment to Net Neutrality

Senator Scott Weiner, who proposed the bill has said that the amendments have “mutilated” the bill and that “It is, with the amendments, a fake net neutrality bill.” This is a crushing blow for those in the US who support net neutrality and it would seem to suggest that without support from the very top, any state legislation is going to be very difficult to implement.

What Was The Problem?

It seems that the opposition to the bill largely believed that it went too far. California was keen to set the ‘gold standard’ of Net Neutrality laws and in the proposal had set some of the toughest protections ever seen. For the moment, however, it seems that it’s simply not meant to be.

Playing Devils Advocate, some of the worse case scenarios proposed since the abolition have not happened. That doesn’t, however, mean to say that they can’t.

What do you think? Do you support Net Neutrality? In addition, do you think this is a bad decision? – Let us know in the comments!

IGTV is available for everyone.

Well, if anyone’s going to compete with YouTube, it might as well be Instagram. The social media platform boasts more than one billion monthly active users, which is a testament to its outstanding progress. Back in 2012, when Facebook acquired it, Instagram had just 40 million monthly active users. Back to IGTV, the service was revealed recently at a media event in San Francisco. This is a standalone app that supports long-format videos of up to one hour. The current Instagram limit only supported one minute, so this is a major increase. Initially, the service was supposed to cater to the needs of celebrities and their fan base. Now, it looks like anyone will be able to upload long videos on IG.

What about the format?

Well, this is where things get a little tricky. IGTV wants you to shoot and display your videos vertically, which comes with its own set of issues. Some just don’t like the way vertical videos look, which is fair. Others, however, won’t really find the viewing experience comfortable, particularly since we’re talking about lengthy videos. Still, the introduction of IGTV could be a step in the right direction for the company, especially since the user base is already there. Instagram just needs to implement it properly and get all the right people to join in on the action.

The Steam Summer Sale Is Set To Start On Friday

It’s time to either celebrate or hide your wallets. Yes, one of the biggest events in PC gaming is coming this Friday and as such you might want to get your kidneys on eBay in preparation to cover the costs of your purchases.

Steam sales are often not specifically revealed until quite close to the date. I have no idea why it’s just how they like to do things. With confirmation being received though, we can confirm that the Steam Summer Sale will officially launch this Friday. God help your bank account!

Hide The Bank Cards!

I must admit that on several occasions the Steam sales have made me spend more than I wanted to. On many of those occasions, I have even bought games that I still haven’t played. Some of these have been sat in my Steam library for several years now!. For the more recent sales though, I have been a little more sensible in my approach. In truth though, I thought the last sale was a bit rubbish.Steam Summer Sale Date Confirmed, Begins June 22

Despite that though, when the sale launches on Friday I daresay that there will be many of you, like myself, who will probably spend the best part of an hour scouring through the deals to see if there’s anything we simply have to make our own. Yes, I do this at literally every Steam sale. This is, however, perhaps the first sale in which there are games I genuinely want.

What I’d Like To See In the Steam Summer Sale

Jurassic World Evolution launched a little over a week ago. The game itself is a ‘theme park’ inspired game where you must build, run and manage your own Jurassic Park. For me, this game ticks so many boxes, but I do have one major problem, it’s too damn expensive!

Currently retailing for £45.00 on Steam I must admit that I am really keen on this, but I have a massive problem spending that much on a PC game. Before I get my hopes up though or yourself for any recent release, Valve last year did discuss the potential for a game having to be released for a month before it would be eligible for sale. I don’t know whether that actually became policy or not, but I guess we’ll all find out in the next few days!

What do you think? What game are you most interested in from the Steam Sale? – Let us know in the comments!

Toshiba Introduces RM5 Enterpise Value SAS SSDs

New Game Changing SAS SSDs

Toshiba is adding a new drive called the RM5 for their enterprise storage portfolio. This RM5 12Gbit/s value SAS (vSAS) series drive features capacity, performance, reliability, manageability and data security advantages. All at a lower price that seeks to render SATA enterprise SSDs obsolete. Unlike SATA SSDs, the Toshiba RM5 does not need SAS expanders to scale out.

Each drive uses Toshiba Memory Corporation’s BiCS FLASH 3D TLC memory. It will be initially available in capacities up to 7.68TB with a single 12Gbit/s port, SFF-8639 connector and in a 2.5″ form factor. Other capacity options include 960GB, 1.92TB, and 3.84TB.

How Well Does This Drive Perform?

Expect sequential read speeds of up to 838MB/s with sequential write speeds of up to 650MB/s. Random read is up to 150K IOPS, with random write at 35K and random mixed 90/10 at 110K IOPS. In comparison, Micron’s 5200 Pro reaches sequential read speeds of only up to 540MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 520MB/s.

However, in comparison to an SAS server SSD such as the Samsung PM1643, it comes up far shorter. Especially since the PM1643 has a sequential read speed of up to 2,100 MB/s and sequential write speed of up to 1,700 MB/s.

In terms of endurance, the RM5 has a 1 drive-writes-per-day (DWPD) rating and a mean-time-to-failure (MTTF) of 2.5 million hours.

This drive is rated for an operating temperature of between 0 degrees Celcius and 70 degrees Celcius. The range is much higher for non-operating range, between -40 degrees Celcius and 70 degrees Celcius.

Western Digital Now Has 12TB Purple Surveillance HDDs

Larger Capacity 12TB Purple Drives for AI Systems

Western Digital is expanding their hard disk drive portfolio once again with new 12TB drives. These are specifically for emerging DVR systems that feature AI capabilities. Western Digital’s Purple line has been making surveillance-specific drives for a while now. These can withstand 24/7 use, higher temperatures, have lower power consumption, and are much more reliable in these applications.

These new WD Purple range in particular supports up to 64 cameras with workloads of up to 360TB/year. In terms of Mean-Time-Before-Failure (MTBF), it has a 1.5 million hour rating. Just how reliable are these drives? Their non-recoverable read error-per-bits rating is less than 1 in 1015. Meaning that one bit read every 1,000,000,000,000,000 bits could have a problem. Which is significantly lower in comparison to desktop drives.

“Network video recording systems are getting smart,” says Brendan Collins, vice president product marketing, devices business unit, Western Digital. “AI-enabled NVRs are being architected for new GPUs and CPUs to improve overall deep-learning capability and to speed algorithms related to object recognition and facial recognition. NVRs with deep learning require greater storage capacity and more sophisticated processing, versus individual cameras, to perform more advanced analytics, such as location of an individual face image from weeks or months of stored video, or creation of traffic heat maps from hours of retail surveillance video.”

How Much Are These Western Digital Purple Drives?

The 12TB WD Purple surveillance-class drives (model number WD121PURZ) are available for $479 USD each. There is also a smaller 10TB capacity Purple drive (model number WD101PURZ) available for a $399 USD.

AMD Threadripper 2 Arriving Soon

Details regarding AMD‘s followup to their Threadripper HEDT processor showed up last week, following an announcement at Computex 2018. Now it appears that there are already benchmarks leaking out showing off its performance. This Threadripper 2 is a 32-core monster which uses 12nm+ process. That is 32-cores with 64-threads, double that of the original Threadripper CPUs.

The benchmarks leak came out courtesy of HKEPC, showing CPU-Z screenshots with Cinebench R15 results. Enthusiasts pretty much expect the upcoming CPU to be very powerful. However, the benchmarks show that it seems to be much more and is beyond expectations.

Enter the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990X

According to HKEPC, this new 32-core processor officially goes by the name “Ryzen Threadripper 2990X.” It even overclocks to 4.1GHz via water-cooling and comfortably runs on air and has a 4GHz boost clock. The CPU-Z screenshot HKEPC shows a 3.4GHz core speed (all cores) and a 250W TDP. Its base clock is actually 3GHz. The CPU also  has a 3MB L1 Cache, 16MB L2 Cache and 64MB L3 Cache.

Moreover, with support for Full XFR clock expansion space technology, XFR Boost clocks up to 200MHz to 4.2GHz. The multiplier remains unlocked as well so adventurous users can try to squeeze in more performance as well.

How Well Does The Ryzen Threadripper 2990X Perform?

According to HKEPC, it is very receptive to manual overclocks. Using a CORSAIR H150i PRO AIO, the operating voltage is successfully overclocked to 4.12GHz at 1.38v. Cinebench R15 benchmark also finishes without a hitch, reaching as high as 6399 points. You can actually see how much further that is compared to other Intel CPUs in the chart above. In comparison to the i9-7900X, the multiscore result is almost 3x as much with the 4.12GHz result.

Everything looks very promising so far for AMD. Especially considering this Threadripper 2 is going to be compatible with existing X399 motherboards as well. Provided that their VRM can handle the 250W TDP of course.

Vodafone Ready To Test Launch 5G Networking This August

With the 4G network still being somewhat patchy through the United Kingdom, it seems that rather than getting that established, we’re instead looking to 5G. It seems, however, that for the UK it might be coming a lot sooner than expected.

Vodafone has announced that although work is currently underway, they should be easy to test launch their 5G network. This test launch is amazingly scheduled for as soon as this August!

Where Will The Test Launches Be Held?

As you would expect, Vodafone has looked to priority the UK’s biggest cities. As such, in a report via Computer Weekly, the following cities will be part of the trial; Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, London and Manchester. I’m sure our readers in Newcastle are going to be pretty miffed. They do appear, to me at least, to be the biggest city not on the list.

vodafone 5G

Will This Be The Full Launch Of 5G?

This is only a test trial that will be run between August and December this year. The full implementation of 5G networking is not expected to roll-out until around 2020. This will, however, give those in the cities affected the opportunity to have a quick glimpse into what the future of mobile networking may hold.

What Will 5G Be Capable Of?

The short answer is, even at this point, we don’t really know. While it will clearly see us potentially able to access data on the go faster, beyond that, it’s a little vague as to what further applications it might bring.

In these terms, it’s simply going to be a case of waiting to see. If you live in one of the cities above though, you might be able to get a better idea before the rest of us.

EVGA Computex 2018

It looks like EVGA is finishing up the second half of 2018 in a big way. Ironically, they’re starting small though, with their ultra-compact PSU. This PSU is the worlds smallest 1000W PSU, and yet it still maintains an 80 Plus Platinum rating for efficiency.

Supernova T2

If you want to go bigger, the saying of more is more applies here. Their T2 offers up a whopping 1600W of power delivery and premium components throughout. If you’re running an extreme gaming PC, this looks like the perfect solution.

X299 Dark

If world records are more your thing, then the X299 Dark is the motherboard used to set quite a few of them this month.

Focusing on the Intel x299 platform, it features massive VRM coolers with dual fans, ensuring you can tax that CPU pretty freaking hard.

The whole motherboard is reinforced, features a lot more copper, a lot more layers, chunky power delivery hardware and more. Furthermore, it has four full-size PCIe slots, all armoured. Also, another cooling fan over the chipset.

Z10

Finally, their awesome new Z10 mechanical gaming keyboard. It features a larger than usual design, allowing for an LCD display on the back, as well as slider controls, macro keys, a built-in wrist rest, multimedia controls and more.

It’s certainly not for everyone, but for those who loved their original LCD equipped keyboards, it’s a nice evolution.

TeamGroup Computex 2018

If you’re a fan of TeamGroup, you’ll be happy to see they brought plenty of great hardware to show us at Computex 2018. First up, we have their latest T-Force Dark RoG memory. Running at 3000 MHz and 32GB, it’s a pretty decent kit, with a custom heatsink design that’s sure to blend in well with the vast range of RoG gaming hardware.

They also had their matching NVMe M.2 drives, although I don’t think the design carries over as well on this kind of heatsink.

Night Hawk RGB

For those wanting even more style and performance, the 3600 MHz 8 x 4GB kit looks like the way to go. It features full RGB lighting, white heat spreaders and much faster performance too.

Delta RGB SSD

Has RGB gone too far? That’s for the public to decide. Personally, I think these look amazing, albeit they wouldn’t suit my own PC build. However, for the customisation enthusiast, there’s a lot of scope here to create something interesting.

XCALIBUR Generation Edition RGB

Their other 3600 MHz kit looks pretty slick too. For RGB fans, this is the better one, as it features more LEDs per module, and a much larger lightbar to really let them shine.

The etched model looks even better, providing a design and colour scheme that would match well with ASUS motherboards.

Special Edition

The shiniest set of all, the XCALIBUR Special Edition RGB comes with a polished gunmetal finish. It’s also their fastest kit, rated at 4000 MHz for those that care for both aesthetics and blistering performance.

EK Computex 2018

We’re seeing a lot of awesome custom loop gear here at Computex 2018. Now, EK has rocked up with the latest EK-Cryofuel Solid colours. Not only do they provide impressive colours, they also promise great performance.

However, it’s their “revolutionary patent-pending formula” that really matters. The most important aspects are cooling and efficiency, and they say that’s taken care of, but it’s the colour stability. Many fluids have sediment that settles over time, especially while not running the loop. These colours should stay true for a very long time indeed. Of course, that means less draining and refilling your loop.

Fans

Their latest EK-VARDAR X3M fans are built for extreme cooling and optimised for radiator installations. They use a high-static pressure design, and is basically the next evolution of the fans they originally launched in 2014. Of course, they feature rubber dampeners, a floating frame design, and an improved fan blade design. The end result, great looking fans that promise low noise and high airflow; exactly what we all want.

Monoblocks and More

Their new blocks are better than ever, offering full-coverage, easier installations, and improved performance. The CPU blocks help cool the VRM too, yet still only require two fittings, saving on cost, tubing, coolant and everything else really.

All these products will be hitting the market soon, so keep an eye out for prices and availability.

EK Computex 2018

EK are a custom loop company, that’s what they do best. They’ve been pushing to create premium AIO coolers for a while, with mixed success. However, this could be the model that finally breaks them into that market.

Using new custom loop hardware, the CPU block of your choice, tubing, radiator and all come pre-assembled and pre-filled.

They use a design that moves the reservoir, pump and control hardware into the custom housing for the radiator and fans.

Again, it’s custom, but it’s technically AIO too. It features their new VARDAR EVO RGB fans and promises big on performance, but let’s just hope they nail the price, as this is a tough market to crack.

Enterprise

Servers are typically air cooled, using tiny turbofans that are anything but quiet and not overly efficient either. Their new low profile blocks and tubing interlinks mean they can fit their low height thick radiators in a rack. This isn’t for your typical consumer, but if they can help maintain higher CPU performance, lower heat and noise, there’s a big market for this hardware.

EK-Annihilator EX/EP

Again showing off their new blocks and how they can be a big space saver compared to conventional water cooling blocks. If you’re packing these motherboards full of extreme hardware, space is key, as is the performance. It’ll be interesting to see how these products develop and where the market interest is.

Multi-GPU Cooling Now Easier Than Ever

Extreme workstations, such as Nvidia real-time Ray Tracing system, tend to run extremely hot. If you’re running 4 x GV100 cards on air, you’re going to hear that beast. However, EK has created a special bridge block that allows shorter water cooling tubing runs to each GPU. This is better than bridging one card to the next, as if one card fails, you have to drain the whole look and rebuild.

Now, you can remove the tubes from one GPU as they have a stopper valve, remove the card, add the new one, reconnect the tubes, and you’re back in business. This is going to be a big hit with those building rendering rigs, I guarantee it.

Gaming

Their consumer focused products have had a bit of a redress too. The new designs certainly stand out, and we love the improved red fittings. You’ll be seeing these on the shelf pretty soon too, so keep an eye out for them.

EK Computex 2018

We’ve seen a lot of cool custom loop hardware over the years, but EK just went one better in my opinion. Their CEO made his own PC from wood, and that’s his personal computer on the left there (above).

This inspired them to create a range of custom loop hardware, blockings, fittings and more with a wood finish. Yes, they’re still metal underneath. However, you can pick the woods, the finishes, and much more.

This isn’t a retail thing as such either, this is a fully custom experience.

You arrange with their design team what goals you would like to meet, they’ll craft the hardware to suit your needs.

This the water cooling equivalent of going to a tailor for a James Bond level suit, vs picking something off the rack at Walmart. It’ll be expensive, but it’ll be truly unique and unmatched in style.

Turn your whole PC, a custom scratch build, the water cooling and more to a finely crafted work of art; you just need a credit card or three.

What do you think, is this something you would invest in? Or do you think it’ll be going too far? Who knows, if they get a lot of demand, they could take some of this to mass production for a wider market!

ASUS Computex 2018

We’ve already seen ASUS go huge with their ultra-ultra wide gaming monitor, as well as their AMAZING 4K HDR monitor. However, it looks like they’re expanding their product range, as they now have an ROG branded PSU!

They’ve gone all out on the design too, as it’s one of the best looking PSUs we’ve ever seen. It features the ASUS eye with RGB lighting on the side, as well as an OLED display for added flair.

Style over substance this is not, with a powerful 1200W 80 Plus Platinum design, premium components and more. They called it Thor, so it’s only right you could wield this thing thanks to their fun handle (only for the show, sorry).

Liquid Cooling

If that wasn’t enough, they’ve also created the RYUO 120 and 240mm AIO liquid coolers. Of course, they have RGB with AURA sync, obviously. However, it also features a stunning 1.77″ OLED LiveDash display right on the pump.

This display can be used for system starts, logos, or just fun animations. The fans are Noctua Industrial PPC too, which is freaking awesome, and shows that they’re going premium not mass market.

Their second design is even cooler, with a multi-zone RGB element and the display in the corner. I like the box design over the round one personally.

UK Culture Secretary Proposes All Schools Should Ban Mobile Phones

I consider myself somewhat lucky that going through school, owning a phone was never a thing. Well, that’s not strictly true. What phone you owned didn’t matter, if you had a mobile phone though, you were pretty cool. I personally had a brick of a phone from Orange that acted more convincingly as a weapon for self-defence than a means of making calls.

I can’t, however, feel though that with tablets and phones, schools are becoming more and more of a battleground for teachers. With this in mind, in a report via the Guardian, the UK Culture Secretary is calling on more schools to implement an outright ban on phones.

A Contentious Subject!

Now, this is clearly a subject that is going to divide option, even amongst us here at eTeknix. I personally, however, strongly suggest such calls. I do so, however, for several reasons and it’s largely due to the teachers and the schools in general.

Firstly, with so many iPhones, iPads, tablets, devices etc. how much technology do you think is in the average classroom today? Not even in terms of quantity, what about financially speaking? I’d be willing to bet that the average secondary school classroom of 30 kids has probably about £5,000 worth of technology just on the students. Therefore, theft is clearly going to be an issue, even at schools.

school classroom phone

Distractions In The Classroom!

Secondly, I can’t help but sympathise with teachers who must at times find it near impossible to get the attention of all the students. While you’re trying to teach physics, you’ll have a 4 player Fortnite team at the back of the class trying to win themselves a chicken dinner. An outright national ban in schools would, if nothing else, remove a lot of pressure and policing from teachers.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand why parents would want kids to have phones from a security perspective. Let’s be real though, phones these days are only barely for the purpose of making calls.

What Do You Think?

I’m guessing that your opinion here might be reflective of your age, but even so, I’d be very curious to see how you feel about a blanket ban of mobile phones in schools.

Whether you are for or against the idea, let us know what you think in the comments!

Kickstarter Launched For PC Tower Backpack

We at eTeknix would be the first to admit that if you own a mid-large sized PC chassis, moving it around can be quite tricky. Often they are heavy, cumbersome and unless your tower has a handle often hard to get a good purchase on. Please note though that we used the words occasionally and tricky, not often and impossible.

It seems, however, that someone wants to design a solution to a problem I suspect hardly anyone has. Following the launch of a Kickstarter campaign, Crazzie Pro Gear is touting what they believe to be the worlds first backpack designed specifically to hold a mid-sized PC chassis and all the cables and components necessary for transport.

If This Was Dragons Den, We’d Already Be Out!

Firstly, we should point out that we don’t want to sound unkind… but we’re probably going to.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous technology based Kickstarter projects we have seen for quite a while. Firstly, let’s just address the very nature of the product. It’s a PC Tower. Now, unless you have fitted some castanets to the bottom of yours, they are not really designed for the purpose of being regularly moved and transported. If you wanted a PC that was portable, there are these things called laptops that are generally much smaller and lighter. As such, I’m not entirely sure who would want this product.crazzie pro gear pc tower backpack

There Is Already A Solution To This!

One of the biggest issues we have for this product though is that there is already something out that does this. They’re called suitcases! Even if you don’t want one of them there are plenty of backpacks large enough to hold a PC tower. This does, however, get worse. Some of the marketing shows that this backpack can be converted to have a pulley. Even their own advertising shows that this is just a suitcase if you do that!

The only major selling point this product seems to have is that it’s large enough to fit a mid-sized PC chassis. That’s it! Even then, call me cynical, but it would probably still be a squeeze for your average gaming chassis.

Now, you might be arguing that this backpack might have some extra padding or something to protect it. The short answer is, not as far as we can see in the product description. Additionally, a good backpack or suitcase has more than enough protection to stop PC towers (which are already quite sturdy in themselves) getting damaged.

crazzie pro gear pc tower backpack

How Much Does This Monstrosity Cost?

To get in on the Kickstarter at a level in which you will get your very own Crazzie Pro Gear PC Tower Backpack, you would need to put in $149. Now, surely, for less than half of this, you could get a really nice big backpack or suitcase.

In conclusion, we are not surprised in the slightest that this has only managed to make around $3000 of the $60,000 target. In fact, scratch that. We’re amazed it’s found itself $3000 worth of backers. We just honestly fail to see exactly who this is appealing to. Even then, why you’d want to spend $149 on this!

If you are interested, you can visit the official Kickstarter page here. Frankly though, we have no idea why you would want this. If you want our opinion, if you really need something like this in your life, spend around a third of the money on a nice suitcase! You’ll get better value for money, plus you can use it for your holidays!

What do you think? – Let us know in the comments!

AMD May Soon Retire Entire Original Ryzen Lineup

Earlier in the year, AMD kicked off their Ryzen refresh. With the new Zen+ design, AMD planned to update most of their mainstream CPU lineup. So far, we’ve already received the Ryzen 5 2600X and the Ryzen 7 2700X. However, the budget and mainstream markets have had to make do with APUs. Based on some leaked Geekbench postings, that may be changing soon. We now have more information about the Ryzen 3 2300X and Ryzen 5 2500X.

The Ryzen 3 2300X and Ryzen 5 2500X were first revealed in leaked documents from AMD. At the time that AMD launched Ryzen 2000, the 2300X and 2500X were left out. That gave the 1300X and 1500X first gen Ryzen a bit more shelf time. With the leaks coming now, it looks like its time for the launch processors to go away. We also have a good sense as well in how the new chips compare to the old ones.

AMD Zen+ Scores As Expected

The Ryzen 3 2300X scores 4734 on a single thread and 13999 multithread. It comes with a total of 4 cores with no SMT, running at 3.5 GHz base and 3.9 GHz boost. The Ryzen 5 2500X scored 4782 and 17291 for single and multithread respectively. Compared to the Ryzen 3, the Ryzen 5 features SMT, giving it a total of 8 threads. Just like their predecessors, they have both Precision Boost and XFR.

As expected, there Zen+ is more of an incremental upgrade over Zen. The move to 12nm will likely yield some power savings. However, at the low end, AMD is not really pushing the limits. However, they will still be a welcome addition to the Ryzen family. They will offer a high performance than the current APU lineup but likely with lower cost given current trends. My own wish is that every AMD CPU become an APU, just to have a small iGPU to mess around with.

ASUS Computex 2018

As one of the biggest names in the PC hardware market and beyond, ASUS has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, at Computex 2018 they didn’t disappoint us. While I’m sure you’re here for the ultra ultra ultra wide monitor, let’s kick things off with their new gaming monitor!

ROG SWIFT PG27UQ

Now, this truly is a display to behold, offering up a true 4K panel with HDR 1000 Nits. For those of you who don’t know, that’s high enough to meet the HDR Premium specification and comes thanks to their use of Quantum Dot Tech.

However, it gets better, as this panel runs at a staggering 144 Hz with G-Sync. Just a shame it’s going to be on the heavy side of $2000, but at least it’s a start, the tech will filter down to consumer-friendly models eventually.

ASUS VG49V

16×9 is old hat these days it seems, with 21:9 monitors becoming more popular than ever. However, 21:9 is nothing compared to this staggering 32:9 extremely wide display from ASUS. As ASUS themselves say “unlock your peripheral vision” by ramming it full of monitor apparently. With a pixel crunching resolution of 3840 x 1080, it’s 4K wide and Full HD tall!

The monitor uses the latest Adaptive Sync (FreeSync) for tearing free image reproduction too.

You’ll find all the usual tricks here too, such as Extreme Low Motion Blur, as well as PbP, GameFast lag reduction, GameVision enhancement hotkey, and low flicker/blue light.

Four New Star Trek Shows Being Discussed After Success of Discovery

Last year, we were treated to our first new TV series of Star Trek since Enterprise limped off our screens in 2005. For many Star Trek Discovery was a fresh breath of air to the franchise. Similar in a way to how the newer films had regenerated the popularity.

There is an expression that success breeds success and in Discovery’s case, it might be good news for Trekkies as a whole. The reported success of the series has led to discussions for four other Star Trek-themed shows being in the works!

What Do We Know About The New Series?

As a whole, we don’t know a lot except that at least four Star Trek shows, in addition to Discovery, are being planned. The report via Polygon, suggests that one of these may be set at Starfleet Academy. A location only periodically visited throughout the history of the show.

star trek discovery

Another idea being touted is that a series may look to concentrate on Khans story in more detail. Such as his genetic engineering and motivations to attempt to take over Earth. It may just concentrate on the Eugenics War as a whole. Either could work really well.

There is less information on the other two proposals, although one is thought to potentially be an animated series. In truth though, all of these sound like great ideas to me.

When Can We Expect To See These Shows?

Since picking up the rights to the franchise, it seems clear that CBS wants to make Star Trek as popular as it was again in the mid to late 90’s. This is certainly possible, but it will take some good and fresh ideas. Although I think the criticism that Enterprise gets is a little unfair, I think too many it was just too much of the same. For over 10 years from The Next Generation, to Deep Space Nine and then to Voyager, we had perhaps had a little too much of the same formula.

While I think one of the series could revisit that, Discovery shook things up. Although this didn’t please everyone, I think overall, it benefited the franchise.

Thermaltake Computex 2018

We’re big fans of Thermaltake, and that’s literally because their chassis are often VERY big. Their new Level 20 VT is the smallest of the new bunch, and even that’s got some meat on it. Following the design of the Level 20, it features those thickly curved rails on the corners, providing a durable frame to mount four tempered glass windows, huge amounts of cooling and hardware.

Level 20 XT

The slightly bigger version of a big small chassis. That’s not a typo, but if you want bigger GPUs, double the cooling, double the radiators, and a larger motherboard, this is the way to go. If anything, I think this one is my favourite, it’s small enough to be cool, but big enough to be practical.

Level 20 GT RGB

A more standard form factor, this one looks closest to the giant Level 20, albeit it doesn’t cost anywhere near as much, or weigh as much as a house. It still uses a horizontal motherboard layout, giving you terrific amounts of space for your water cooling. Plus, the interior layout looks stunning regardless.

Level 20

We’ve seen this one before, and it’s massive! With its triple compartment design, every major section has its own airflow, radiator space, and more. It’s not for everyone, but it’s certainly stunning.

Alexa?

This wall of lights is just set up to show their Alexa app. Now you can ask Alexa things like “What’s the weather in London” and if it’s sunny, it’ll turn yellow. If it’s cloudy, grey, etc. This isn’t just their fans though, as their entire RGB setup can comply, throughout your chassis, peripherals and more. Sure, this is a dumb demo, but it’s a new idea and one that can certainly be expanded.

Another good example is their Overwatch support, as the system and peripheral RGB will change based on which charector you have selected. That’s a pretty cool idea actually, and I wonder what other games will use the tech.

Intel Respond To AMD Troll With A Little One Of Their Own

Now, unless you are currently living under a rock, in terms of processors there are pretty much only 2 brands. Intel and AMD. As such, you can often expect a little bit of competition and rivalry between the two brands.

While Intel has largely been dominating over the last 10-15 years. AMD With their brand new Ryzen Processors have slowly but surely started to take a little bite back in terms of the market share. While the competition can sometimes be rather fierce, at times the companies do like to show that they have a sense of humour.

As such, following a troll that AMD aimed at Intel earlier this week, Intel has launched their own funny little response.

One, Two, Three, Four – I Declare A Troll War!

Following a competition ran by Intel to win one of their i7 8086K processors, AMD offered a tongue in cheek offer to the winners. Put simply, they said that anyone who won would be able and eligible to exchange it with them for one of AMD’s Threadripper Processors as part of an upcoming AMD promotion.

Savage, But Playful!

This got a lot of laughs from the community, but Intel’s response has been just as good, if not better. In a report via PCGamesN Intel responded to AMD on Twitter with the following.

Yeah, I must admit, that’s a pretty decent return shot by Intel. A bit savage, but still in the same playful nature that AMD used.

AMD’s Exchange Offer

We should note that the AMD exchange offer is entirely legitimate, although we don’t expect to have further details on it until the end of the month. If nothing else though, it is nice to see a little-barbed banter between these two companies.

Escape From Monkey Island Is Available To Buy From GoG

Monkey Island is, without doubt, one of the most beloved classic franchises out there. From 1-4 I have played and completed them all and find very little to fault. Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the largely awful TellTale adaptation, but that’s another story for another day.

The story follows our protagonist, Guybrush Threepwood (mighty pirate), on his adventures to first become and pirate and then, unconvincingly, try and keep the job. With the original games being easily accessible though, through various sources, the 4th (referred to as the black sheep) has been frustratingly amiss.

Well, good news fans! Monkey Island 4 is officially released on Good Old Games, and better still, it costs only a little over £7!

Monkey Island 4 – The Marmite Game Of the Franchise

Some like Monkey Island 4, some hate it. Why? Well, it was a game that fell into that awkward period in the late 90’s where 3D graphics were first starting to infect adventure games. The short answer is that when 3D became the thing, many developers didn’t know what to do. Hence, we got a lot of clunky releases from otherwise excellent developers/franchises.

A few examples of this would be Grim Fandango, Broken Sword 3 and Monkey Island 4. In terms of a game though, I actually really like it. The basic idea is that Le Chuck is back, but we also have a new villain in an Australian who is the best as insult sword fighting. Not because he is good at it, but because no one can understand what he means.

Should I Buy It?

If you’re a fan of classic adventure games, yes. As above, in terms of smoothness of controls, it is a little clunky. You do have to remember though that this was developed at a time where they were still figuring it out. Be warned though, this game does require a 3D accelerator! (If you don’t know what that means, be grateful).

The game can be purchased from the GoG store in the link here!

GameStop Goes Officially Up For Sale

Although not a brand that is well known in Europe, in America, GameStop is, without doubt, one of the biggest names in terms of high street gaming stores. It seems, however, that despite the company operating for many, many years, it might be hitting a difficult period.

As such, in a report via CNET, it has been confirmed that GameStop is officially up for sale! This might, however, spell bad news for gaming retailing in the UK and Europe.

Why Are They For Sale?

It’s hard to ignore the impact that the online digital download market has had on the gaming industry. It’s for reasons like this that, for PC gamers especially, you practically can not find physical copies of games anywhere anymore. This does also have an effect on physical stores though who rely on game sales.

gamestop

With more and more people simply buying games online, such stores are finding it harder to turn over a decent profit. As such, despite it being rather sad, GameStop being for sale shouldn’t really surprise anyone. It does, however, make you wonder who will buy it and if a new owner has an idea to turn this around.

Pre-Owned Games

One of the biggest earners for gaming stores is pre-owned gaming. It fits perfectly into the ideal business category of buy low and sell high. There are, however, limits as to how far you can take this and more often than not, you see greed creeping far too much into play. For example, you can buy a brand new game for £45, or a pre-owned copy for £43. Call me affluent, but I’ll spend the extra £2 on the new one thanks.

Although GameStop does not have any ownership or association with Game in the UK, I have for a long time been concerned about how much longer that store can last as well. I think Game in the UK has turned into an abhorrent shop. It’s overpriced and the staff are more like used-car dealers trying to upsell you on everything. The most worrying part though is that Game has emulated much of what GameStop did. Even their new reward system has basically ripped off GameStop’s approach. I would note that I choose the word ‘rip-off’ very deliberately.

With GameStop in the US potentially being sold or liquidated, don’t be surprised to see Game follow suit.

InWin Computex 2018

I’m not beating around the bush here, InWin has lost the freaking plot! They’ve gone from amazing boutique chassis that cost a realistic few hundred dollars to multi-thousand dollar monstrosities that are beyond practical and feasible for pretty much any PC build. However, that doesn’t mean to say I can’t appreciate what they’ve done, in one way or another. InWin chassis’ are now in the level of a fashion show catwalk or a fancy gallery. It’s stuff you appreciate, but you don’t wear it out or hang it in your house.

The new chassis is insane, with 40KG of aluminium each cast using custom tooling. What’s funny is that it’s so complex to make that the tooling often breaks after they make one.

They literally have to start from scratch every time, ouch! They plan to make a 100, but do date, they’ve made 4. At $7000 for the chassis, it’s certainly up there, but credit to them from having a bit of fun, quite literally at their own expense.

It’s massive, it’s super heavy, it’s completely freaking pointless, but damn… it really is something to behold.

Airflow certainly isn’t an issue, and even the chassis appears to be like a statue of a tornado.

What do you think of it?

Back to Reality

Back on planet earth, they also make normal chassis too. However, even this one is pretty wacky and I love it. With a 360mm interior mount, as well as bottom radiator support. This chassis features an addressable LED front panel. Using the software, you can colour it in how ever you like, even spanning scenes together to create a gif like image that plays on the front.

Customise Your Chassis

This may be the best crazy idea they’ve had in years. Why have the same chassis as everyone else, when you can get something truly unique?

InWin will offer a service to let you add custom graphics to their chassis, and InWin will do it for you in their factory. This can be a logo, a pattern, or even a fully custom panel. The choice is yours, although I am eager to see the prices for the work.

915

The new and improved 915 is shaping up nicely, featuring a curved front panel design, and a retractable top section to add or conceal ventilation for the top airflow. What’s cool is that it’s motorised too, not some cheap push/click mechanism.
