Fierce PC Dream Machines P960RN Gaming Laptop Review

First impressions of the Fierce PC P960RN Dream Machines are very good indeed. It has a good weight to it that gives it a sturdy and quality feel. However, it’s not so over-bloated that it feels cumbersome. At just 2.09kg it’s pretty well balanced given the high-end hardware within.

There’s a little bit of detailing on the back of the display. There’s a DM (dream machine) decal in the middle. However, there are also these perforated designs on each side, which I was pleasantly surprised to see are LED-lit; you’ll see that in a moment.

The DM logo looks cool enough, even if the M is on sideways, but I’m 100% sure that’s intentional haha…99% sure.

Connectivity

There’s certainly no shortage of options down this side. there’s a USB 3.0 port, mini DP, HDMI and power ports here, which is great.

However, I’m more excited to see not one, but two USB Type-C connectors. Even most high-end motherboards only have one of them, so this is a nice addition and very future proof.

Towards the back, there is the heat exhaust (left side). I can see a pretty sizable radiator in there too, which will be needed to keep that mighty RTX 2080 Max-Q operating at its best.

More Power!

There’s a good range of connections down the other side too. Towards the front, a pair of audio jacks, which are pretty self explanatory. There’s another full-size USB 3.0 port, and a built-in SD card reader too.

The laptop is too slim for a traditional RJ45 connector. However, this one uses one that opens up using a spring system, ensuring you can fit the full-size cable into the slimmer laptop body. Of course, it’s got built-in B/G/N WiFi too, giving you plenty of wireless freedom as well as wired options.

Airflow

With the latest i7 CPU and the RTX 2080 Max-Q, the system is plenty efficient. Of course, it’ll still generate heat too, but there’s plenty of ventilation towards the back to help remove that up and away from the hardware.

Some small feet on the base help give it just enough ground clearance at the front. Furthermore, a larger and more sturdy with foot design at the back ensures the bigger air vents and pull in as much air as possible. There really is a lot of ventilation here, which is certainly a good thing.

It uses a triple fan design, with one fan on the rear right side.

Plus a two fan configuration on the left side. Two exhaust through the rear of the system, one on the left side. Obviously, you don’t want it exhausting to the right, as that’s typically where you would have a mouse (assuming you’re right-handed of course).
