Square Enix is launching Final Fantasy 16 on PC tomorrow, but early reports reveal significant optimization issues. Despite being tested on one of the most powerful consumer GPUs available, the NVIDIA RTX 4090, the game fails to maintain a consistent 60FPS at 4K resolution.
A recent analysis by DSOGaming shows that Final Fantasy 16 experiences frame rate drops in demanding scenes. Using an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and 32GB of DDR5 memory, the game could surpass 70FPS in less demanding areas. However, it struggled in intense sections like the Titan boss fight, where the frame rate dropped to the 50s.
By enabling DLSS 3, players can achieve a smoother experience, often hitting over 80FPS, but some areas still cause the RTX 4090 to dip below the desired 60FPS threshold. DSOGaming notes that while DLSS improves the overall performance, even top-tier hardware cannot completely handle the most demanding parts of the game without experiencing drops.
Square Enix has made some optimizations since releasing the PC demo, yet performance issues persist. The lack of stability on such high-end hardware raises concerns about how the game will perform on older systems. As the PC release nears, players are left wondering if future patches will address these optimization problems.
