Back in February of this year, we saw the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Almost immediately, Square Enix began working on the third and final part of this remake trilogy. While the release date remains unknown, we now have new details about Final Fantasy VII Remake 3.
Final Fantasy VII Remake 3
During a presentation at G-CON 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi and series producer Yoshinori Kitase revealed that they have the story for Final Fantasy VII Remake 3 ready, and production on the title has begun in earnest. They also confirmed that in this installment, players will be able to use the Highwind, an iconic ship that allows travel across Gaia from the sky.
This is what they had to say about it (thanks VGC):
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth provided a vast map, but in the third game, the Highwind (airship) will appear, so we need to let you experience the world from a higher perspective. We won’t cheat with the airship system, but challenge it head-on so that players can freely fly around the map.
Possible Release Timeline
Unfortunately, there are no further details about this title at the moment. Considering that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth took just over three years to become a reality, it’s likely that the third part of this trilogy could be available, at the earliest, by the end of 2027. We can only wait for more information to become available.
