Seagate Gaming FireCuda 2TB Gaming Hard Drive Review

A Closer Look

The drive is plug and play ready, and it comes bundled with its own USB-A to Micro-B cable. At least that’s a standard cable, so if you lose it, it’s a couple of quid on Amazon or eBay for a replacement. You don’t need any external power supply, drivers or anything like that, just the USB cable.

It’s got a nice weight to it too, giving it a quality feel. However, for a 2TB drive, I think it’s pretty lightweight, and it’s unlikely to be a burden if you plan to travel with it. In addition, it’s about the same size as a wallet, so it’ll actually fit in my jeans pocket easily enough, not that I would ever need to put it there.

The body is a lightly textured matte black plastic, and it feels plenty durable. It’s a good material, as it’s not going to collect fingerprints. It’s very hard-wearing and pretty stealthy, so with the RGB off, it’ll hide out of sight easily enough. There’s a small but tasteful Seagate logo pressed into the plastic too.

Around the back, it’s the same matte black look, and even the serial numbers and legal stuff are all stamped on in that dark black finish. This is great, as while it’s clear enough to read, it’s dark enough that it’ll still help the drive blend into its environment.

On one end, there’s just the Micro-B port, and that’s about it really. As you can see here, the drive is also pretty slim.

At the front, you’ll find the RGB light bar. It’s actually quite tastefully done, as the lights are just ever so slightly recessed into the body, so you end up with this glow and downlight effect; it’s much nicer than just slapping the strip of RGB right on the front edge.

Turn the lights out, and this thing is pure stealth.

Overall, it’s a very simply black rectangle, a port at one end and a light at the other.
