First AMD Vega OpenCL Benchmarks Appear

AMD has taken most headlines with the Ryzen launch, but Vega is just around the corner and that might be more interesting for the wider audience. The first third-party benchmarks of the AMD Vega have now appeared, although they’re only OpenCL benchmarks. Still, it’s an interesting first look and it also confirms some hardware rumours and speculations.

We had the first exposure of the new graphics chip back in January when it powered the Doom 4K Ultra Demo and now the first OpenCL benchmarks appeared in the CompuBench database. Back at the Doom 4K Ultra Demo, we learned that Vega’s device ID (687F:C1) and that is what lead us to these new OpenCL results.

That device ID has appeared which means two things. The product is near completion and we are looking at weeks rather than months. We also get the first proof that Vega indeed has 64 Compute Units and 4096 Stream Processors. The specifications also list two clock frequencies with 1000 MHz and 1200 MHz.

Reading ahead, you should keep in mind that these are OpenCL benchmarks and these might not represent the gaming capabilities. They still paint a picture of what we could expect from AMDs new flagship graphics.
