Forza 5 Requires Mandatory Day One Title Update

Forza 5 is set to be one of the biggest titles for the Xbox One but a recent statement says that the title will not be playable without a free day one download that will patch the game, but also add a bunch of extra content.

When speaking with IGN, Dan Greenawalt of Turn 10 Studios said “when you first boot up the game we’re going to ask you to log in, and when you log in you’re going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars. That is required content to play the game.”

It’s a mandatory day one patch and while some people will be screaming “ARGH DRM”, please don’t. This is more common these days anyway and I can’t remember the last time I bought a game that didn’t update on release day, but this one is bigger and likely for a few good reasons. The game will have originally been developed to suit the “always online” ideals of the console, since this no longer exsists then it stands to reason that some back tracks and changes need to be made to games to fit the new format.

Either way, I have no issues downloading an update on day one, I’m sure 99% of the Xbox buying population hasn’t either, especially if that update adds more cars and tracks to the game.

Greenawalt also said: “You do have to connect the game in order to get the latest Drivatars, because we need as many people training them as possible. And so rather than having just a launch-day set that was created by us, every day that people race is going to make the Drivatar set that much more accurate, that much more diverse, that much more interesting. All of the cloud and online features make the game far, far better.” But of course it is all, completely optional after the title update on release day, you don’t have to connect if you don’t want to.

Thank you CVG for providing us with this information.
