Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 Will Require a Mandatory Microsoft Account to Play
According to the official FAQ, Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 will require a mandatory Microsoft account to be able to play the game on Sony’s console. This is a solution already used in other cross-platform games like Minecraft, but it remains controversial.
Online and Single-Player Modes Require Both Accounts
Since Forza Horizon 5 has a strong online multiplayer component, though it can also be played in single-player mode, it requires both a PSN account and a Microsoft account. This means players will need to link these two accounts, which has become common in various other cross-platform titles.
The registration for the Microsoft account happens when you first launch the game. Afterward, the data is saved, and the login will happen automatically in future sessions once the setup is complete.
This process has become somewhat of a standard but is still not liked by many players. Console users tend to be less vocal about such requirements compared to PC players. This solution is also often used by third-party publishers, each requiring a specific account, but in this case, the fact that it’s a Microsoft account on a Sony console can be a bit unusual, even though this isn’t the first time it’s happened.
There has already been some controversy about this, especially on top of the complaints about Forza Horizon 5 being available only in digital format on PS5, with no physical version. This issue has generated more complaints, especially from players who prefer physical copies.
The FAQ also clarifies that save data from other platforms cannot be transferred to PS5. This means the game won’t have cross-platform progression, although user-generated content can be used across platforms.
