Forza Horizon 6 Officially Revealed: Set in Japan, Launching May 19 on Xbox and PC, Later on PS5
During the Xbox Developer Direct 2026, Microsoft kicked things off with Forza Horizon 6, showing the game for the very first time. The team at Playground Games shared exciting details about what players can expect from this new installment in the popular racing franchise.
The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch and will also support Xbox Play Anywhere.
A New Journey Set in Japan
As previously revealed, Forza Horizon 6 will take players to Japan. The career mode puts you in the shoes of a tourist looking to join the famous Horizon Festival. Once you succeed, you’ll unlock new races and cars. The ultimate goal is to reach Legend Island — a destination filled with unique tracks, zones, and events to explore.
Developers explained that players will be able to explore a Japanese map filled with natural landscapes, historic landmarks, and modern cityscapes. To recreate Japan authentically, Playground Games worked closely with experts on Japanese culture and automotive heritage.
Tokyo City will be the largest urban environment ever created by the studio, featuring several distinct districts with their own style and atmosphere. Each region will also showcase the effects of changing seasons, adding variety and realism to the driving experience.
At launch, Forza Horizon 6 will feature over 550 cars — the largest lineup in the series’ history. Players will enjoy incredibly detailed sound design that captures the roar of engines, environmental ambiance, and seasonal effects.
A new open area will allow you to build and customize structures, inviting friends to explore your creations. There will also be a global exhibition space to showcase your cars to other players, with the option to copy other users’ car styles.
The PlayStation 5 version is scheduled to release later in 2026, while the game will launch for PC and Xbox Series X|S on May 19, 2026, as previously rumored.
