Fractal Design Vector RS Blackout PC Case Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Fractal Design Vector RS Blackout TG and Dark TG are available now from most major retailers. It’s a flagship product with premium build quality and plenty of premium features. So, as you might expect, a premium price. Its MSRP is £179.99/$179.99/194.99EUR. That is a lot of money, but in terms of materials and build quality, it seems pretty fair too. Most other big-name brands have a flagship cast, and Fractal Design isn’t exactly the most expensive either.

Overview

I’ve been a fan of the top-end Fractal Design cases since before I started working at eTeknix. They’ve always delivered super clean looking products and fantastic durability. Chances are that if you bought a Define R5 many years ago, it’s still going (literally) strong. I suspect the Vector RS will also stand the test of time.

Modular

The thing that really makes this case a bit different, has to be how modular it is. There are loads of HDD and SSD mounts in there, all of which can be removed or moved. Plus it’s all fitted with thumbscrews, so you’re not mucking about with screwdrivers all day to make a few changes.

You can strip all the HDD bays out, fully open up the front panel for high airflow. This will also clear room for a larger and thicker radiator in the front panel. Then you can strip the glass from the top, and fit an even bigger radiator in the top. If that’s not enough, you can still get another 240mm radiator in the bottom and 140mm in the rear. So, cooling isn’t going to be much of an issue then.

Black With a Hint of ARGB

The metal is jet black all over on this case, it was a real pain to photograph, that’s for sure. Then you’ve got mostly blacked out tempered glass. It’s super clean looking and that only makes the ARGB lighting strip contrast all the better. You can keep the lights off, but honestly, the light is very indirect and crisp, and really brings the Vector RS to life.

Should I Buy One?

The case is impressive, no doubt about that. However, you’ve got to take your PC building pretty seriously to drop this amount of cash on a PC case. However, if you want fantastic quality, super clean aesthetics, a class-leading modular design, and much more, then it’s worth every single penny. The excellent dust filters, PSU shroud, 3 x 140mm fans that are pre-installed, fan hub, ARGB lighting controller, noise dampening materials, and much more, all certainly help to sweeten the deal too.
