Framework Announces Another Price Increase for RAM Modules
Framework has announced its second price increase for RAM modules in less than a month . The company, known for its modular and repairable laptops, blames this decision on an extreme shortage and volatility in the semiconductor market, driven by high demand from data centers focused on artificial intelligence.
Transparent Pricing and Market Pressures
Unlike other manufacturers that tend to absorb or hide the costs, Framework has chosen to be transparent about these increases. According to an official statement, the company is adjusting its prices to closely match the acquisition costs from its suppliers. Currently, DDR5 memory for its DIY models is priced around $10 per GB for modules up to 32 GB, and about $13 per GB for 48 GB modules.
Despite the 50% price rise compared to previous months, the company notes that its prices remain below competitors like Apple, which charges roughly $25 per GB. However, Framework admits the situation is unsustainable and warns that another price adjustment may occur in January.
Interestingly, Framework encourages customers to look for better deals elsewhere. The company plans to integrate direct links to PCPartPicker on its website so users can compare prices in real time. If customers find cheaper RAM on the retail market, Framework invites them to buy its laptops without RAM and install it themselves — reinforcing its philosophy of user freedom and customization.
In addition to RAM, the company has warned that SSD storage may be the next component to face a price increase. For now, Framework promises to lower its prices as soon as the market stabilizes, though analysts expect the issue to persist throughout 2026.
