Free NVIDIA FCAT VR Performance Analysis Tool Launched

NVIDIA released the FCAT benchmarking tool in 2013 and has announced the FCAT VR for virtual reality performance analysis last month in San Francisco during the Game Developers Conference. That tool has now officially been launched and best of all, is that it is available completely for free so that users and reviewers alike can access graphics card virtual reality performance. FCAT VR is a much more reliable way to measure performance just like the original FCAT (frame capture analysis tool), it can track frame time, dropped frames, warp misses and synthesised frames while able to present the data automatically in an easily understandable graph.

The software itself is designed to be very easy to use, although it might require some setting up depending on the hardware used. Thankfully, NVIDIA has written a comprehensive article on their GeForce website that provides a step-by-step guide on just how to run the program and get accurate results. Unlike regular overlay framerate benchmarks, FCAT gives a more comprehensive picture of gameplay smoothness so it is also a very useful tool for developers. FCAT VR can be used for both Oculus RIFT and HTC VIVE.

The FCAT VR software itself is quite light, with the installation download size weighing in at only 5MB. It can be downloaded here and all the necessary documents for using the performance analysis tool is also available there.
