G.Skill Ares 8GB 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

In the USA we found G.Skill’s ARES 2400MHz 8GB dual channel kit for $86.99 at Newegg and $100 at Amazon. In the UK we found it on Amazon for £70. G.Skill provide a lifetime warranty with this product.

Summary

There are a lot of considerations when buying a memory kit but I think that G.Skill’s Ares 2400MHz 8GB dual channel kit will tick most boxes for most people. This Ares kit offers great value for money, enough capacity for most users with 4GB and 8GB modules available, clean aesthetics and great performance. Furthermore, the lifetime warranty gives you peace of mind that if anything does go wrong then G.Skill have your back. The only blemish is that these kits didn’t have much in the way of overclocking potential but you won’t see much benefit from frequencies higher than 2400MHz anyway so this doesn’t pose a major issue to any buyers. Not to mention we were able to tighten up the timings at the stock frequency which gave a little bump in performance and reduced latency. The only issue for buyers will be whether blue is the colour for you, if it isn’t then G.Skill do offer orange and red modules, which should appeal to a much broader audience. Availability on the red and orange isn’t as wide as the blue which is annoying, especially as red is likely to be the most popular other all things being equal (mainly pricing & availability). G.Skill might benefit by offering black and white designs as these are always safer bets, most systems can deploy black RAM easily.

Pros

  • Competitive Pricing
  • Good stock performance
  • Clean aesthetics
  • Low Profile
  • Lifetime warranty

Cons

  • Needs a few more colour options
  • Availability (particularly of red & orange models) should be expanded
  • Not much frequency headroom

“G.Skill’s ARES memory kits are a smart choice for enthusiasts, they offer great performance, competitive pricing and tidy aesthetics. It is hard to recommend anything other than this at the price point.”
