G-Technology Launches 10TB G-DRIVE USB-C External HDD

G-Technology is a company known for their drives, created for the creative professionals. They already have a great line-up of drives and now there’s one more in the family called the G-DRIVE USB-C. The new drive comes in capacities up to 10TB and is ready for Mac OS systems and Time Machine backups right out of the box.

The new drive is designed with creative enthusiasts in mind that need a lot of storage with good connection speeds. The USB 3.1 specification delivers the performance while the USB-C connector allows for a dual functionality. The drive is able to charge compatible mobile devices through the USB-C connector, allowing you to eliminate the need for the laptops own power supply. Naturally, this needs to be supported as it is on the latest MacBook and MacBook Pro systems. The drive can deliver up to 45 watts of charging capability through the USB-C port.

“The addition of the G-DRIVE USB-C external drive provides tech enthusiasts a single-cable high-capacity, high-quality storage solution that meets their individual creative needs,” said Mike Williams, vice president of Advanced Technologies, Western Digital. “The G-DRIVE USB-C ensures pros can work seamlessly with the latest computers, and with a USB-C port and support for USB Power Delivery, it allows a user’s charging capability to be more efficient without having to worry about connecting yet another cable to their computer for charging.”

The new G-DRIVE USB-C device comes with a capacity of 10TB in its biggest version, but there are also 4TB and 8TB versions available. While the system is formatted and ready for Mac OS and designed primarily for MacBook owners, it can easily be reformatted to be used with Windows or Linux based systems too.

Included with the drive is both a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-A cable, making it compatible with Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 Gen 1, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0 interfaces. All the goodies are wrapped in a stylish extruded aluminium enclosure and inside is a 5400 RPM drive with a transfer rate of up to 195MB/s.

The product offers a 3-year limited warranty and will be available to purchase in the U.S. this quarter, in 10TB, 8TB and 4TB capacities, with a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $449.95, $349.95, and $199.95, USD, respectively.
