There’s a lot of high-end hardware on the market these days, and it’s easy to get caught up with the overall cost of it going through the roof. You can drop nearly £2000 on an RTX 4090, and you can be hitting £4000-5000 for the whole PC by the time you’ve got the latest high-end memory, motherboard, coolers, storage and more. Well, I did just that, I wanted to game at the bleeding edge of technology for once, rather than a generation or two behind as I usually do. However, when I recently reviewed the stunning AOC AGON Pro AG274QZM gaming monitor, which costs £1000, I thought, is all this really worth it?
Well, that’s what I aim to explore, as if you’re dropping thousands on the PC itself, surely another £1000 on a monitor to make sure you’re getting the best of it all also makes sense!? But that got me really thinking, you can have the most powerful GPU, and one of the best monitors, which in this case, I do. However, can the games you want to play really all hit 240Hz and make the most of it? As it’s not always about rendering power, but many factors can limit a game’s frame rate. So let’s dive into some high-frame-rate favourites, dial things up to the max, and see what happens.
Of course, if I can’t hit the max, we’ll explore that further too and see if we can get to that magic number. At least at the end of this if you were thinking of buying an RTX 4090 gaming PC and a kick-ass monitor to max out your favourite game at 240Hz, you can see if it’s going to be a sound investment or not. Admittedly, I’m writing this introduction before I do the testing, so even I don’t know at this point… Let’s go!
