GammaTech’s new ‘war machine’

You may not be able to deflect bullets, and I doubt they can shoot them either, but at least you can keep your data protected with GammaTech’s latest laptop: the Durabook S15C2.

If you’re wondering if this thing will blend, don’t waste your time, it simply won’t. The magnesium alloy making the case is 20 times stronger than ABS plastic, and has been tested to Mil-Standard 810G for drop and shock resistance. You may be able to put a bullet hole in it, but that would be going to the extreme.

The HDD is protected by a flexible cable design to absorb the shock from any drops and the anti-shock mounting technology around the 15.6″ LCD (1920×1080) protects the screen from accidental damage. The internal system is protected by a unique spill-resistant design applied on the LCD, keyboard and touchpad. GammaTech has also included their exclusive optical-disk-tray lock to prevent any unintentional tray ejection during a drop.

This new model is equipped with a 9-cell battery for longer battery life, and is also protected by a double-protection smart-battery circuitry to prevent damage caused by current or voltage surges and overheating.

The S15C2 is fitted with Intel’s i7 and i5 processors as well as an Intel QM57 chipset and two dual-channel DDR3 SODIMM slots for up to 8GB of RAM. The optical drive slot features DVD super-multi drives, as for the audio you get Intel-compliant high-definition audio, stereo speakers and a built-in microphone.

The I/O ports aren’t lacking, you get three USB ports, a serial port, integrated Gigabit Ethernet, an Intel Mini-Express wireless LAN network connection and an optional Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR is also available.

We’ve seen the physical security to be rough, but the system security isn’t bad either as it includes a Smart Card Reader slot, internal TPM 1.2 data security protection, a Kensington lock connector as well as both Administrator and Boot password control.

The GammaTech S15C2 is custom built to the buyers specifications, but as you can see, this won’t come at budget-friendly price.
