Genius HS-935BT Bluetooth Headset Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Genius HS-935BT Headset is usually available from Amazon, but it’s currently out of stock, making it impossible for us to get accurate pricing information. With Genius often focusing on retail stores and smaller retailers, it’s hard to get any price at all. However, if you can find stock, it should be available in black, red, and white variants and we would expect to pay around £30-40 given the wireless features. Any more than that would be unreasonable, of course anything less than that is a bonus!

Overview

The latest headset from Genius isn’t going to win over the audio enthusiasts of the world anytime soon, but it was never designed to do so anyway. It’s designed to be affordable, while still offering a competitive range of features for those on a tighter budget, and it certainly delivers that.

While it didn’t tick the boxes I want from a music headset, as it just didn’t have the bass response to really capture the energy of my personal music collection, and it got a little muddy listening to heavy metal at high volumes, it still has its uses. For day-to-day hands-free cables the drivers and the built-in microphone do a fantastic job, and listening to podcasts, audiobooks and other vocal heavy media were great. It’s lightweight design and comfortable ear padding means it’s great to wear for extended periods, and with the built-in rechargeable battery it’s suitable to last a decent journey on the train, a long flight or similar scenario.

I can see this being a popular headset with (for lack of a better definition) older consumers, those looking for something affordable, easy to use, no configuration needed, that just need something for a couple of trips a year to enjoy the radio and audiobooks with ease. The main problem we have with the headset, however, is availability. As much as it may be great for that part of the market, they need to be able to find stock and hopefully it’ll be available in more brick and mortar stores than it is in web stores. It could also make a good first headset for those who need headphones for their kids tablets, but build quality could be a concern if you’ve got children who tend to be a bit rough with their gadgets.

Pros

  • Great for vocal heavy audio
  • Decent built-in microphone
  • Rechargeable battery with 10-15 hours life
  • Charges in 3 hours
  • 3.5mm cable included for wired use
  • On-headset controls
  • Protective bag included

Cons

  • Bass response is a bit muddy
  • Silver panels on back of ear cups feel cheap
  • Stock availability is quite poor online

“If you’re looking for a lightweight and comfortable headset to enjoy a few podcasts and audiobooks on long journeys, the HS-935BT is a nice and easy solution. Long battery life and Bluetooth connectivity are welcome bonuses too, and we hope to see Genius improve their product availability and pricing information asap.”
