Ghost of Yotei Has Greatly Improved on PS5 and PS5 Pro Thanks to Update 1.1
According to Digital Foundry, Ghost of Yotei has seen major improvements on both PS5 and PS5 Pro thanks to Update 1.1, which introduces new graphic presets, performance optimizations, and the ability to unlock the frame rate.
Balanced Mode and Performance Boost
The most notable addition is the new Balanced Mode, available in both standard and ray tracing versions. Since each version can run with either a locked or unlocked frame rate, there are now four new console modes — a significant expansion.
On PS5 Pro, the Balanced RT mode with an unlocked frame rate is especially impressive. The game now runs between 40 and 60 fps, making full use of VRR on 120 Hz displays. This marks a big leap from the previous Quality RT mode, which was limited to a steady 40 fps.
Even more impressive is the RT Pro mode, which can now reach 70 to 90 fps with the cap removed. This is a huge technical achievement that shows how much potential the game’s engine still has to offer.
Non-ray-traced modes on PlayStation 5 Pro also show strong results. With frame rate limits lifted, Performance, Balanced, and Quality modes gain an average of 33% more speed compared to their locked-frame counterparts.
Improvements for Standard PS5 Users
Update 1.1 also brings major improvements to the base PS5 version. The Balanced RT mode now reaches a stable 40 fps on displays that support VRR, and can fluctuate between 40 and 60 fps when the frame rate is unlocked.
However, some disappointment remains — cutscenes are still locked at 30 fps, and the update doesn’t change this aspect. Hopefully, this will be addressed in a future patch.
In other news, Ghost of Yotei sold more copies on the PS5 within its first three weeks of release than Assassin’s Creed Shadows did on the same platform in its first seven months.
