Ghost of Yotei Has Sold More Than AC Shadows on PS5 in Just 3 Weeks
The rivalry for the throne of the best — or most popular — Japan-themed adventure is being fought between Ghost of Yotei and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It seems that Sony’s exclusive title is coming out on top, at least on PlayStation 5.
According to the latest report from Alinea Analytics, Ghost of Yotei has already surpassed Ubisoft’s latest Assassin’s Creed game in sales, achieving this in a surprisingly short time considering how long both games have been available in stores and digitally.
Ghost of Yotei Becomes the Leading Japanese Adventure on PS5
Based on data from the market analysis firm, Ghost of Yotei — the PlayStation 5 exclusive from Sucker Punch — has sold 2.5 million copies in its first three weeks, allowing it to overtake Assassin’s Creed Shadows in record time.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft’s game has sold 2.4 million copies on PS5 and about 4.3 million in total, with 56% of those sales on Sony’s console, 26% on Xbox, and 18% on Steam.
It seems Yotei will easily win this duel of Japan-inspired games, and much of its success can be attributed to the strong legacy of Ghost of Tsushima. That earlier title let players experience a breathtaking open-world Japan, giving Sucker Punch a head start over Ubisoft in delivering this kind of adventure.
In related news, Ghost of Yotei is the biggest first-party PlayStation launch since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, according to sales estimates.
