Ghost of Yotei Is Selling Like Hotcakes in Japan, Says Local Report
According to a report from Japan, Ghost of Yotei is selling like hotcakes across the country. There are no official sales numbers yet from Sony or trusted sources such as Famitsu, but the report comes from STV — a television and radio broadcaster based in Sapporo and part of the Nippon News Network (NNN), which operates in Hokkaido.
The Television Report
The TV segment describes Ghost of Yotei as an action-adventure game set in the Jozan area during the Edo period, where the main character has lost her family.
It also recalls the success of its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima , which sold 13 million copies worldwide. A shop clerk interviewed in the segment said, “It’s selling like hotcakes” — it could be the first or second best-selling PlayStation 5 game of the year.
The report praises the visual quality of Sucker Punch’s work and its ability to recreate Japanese landscapes with impressive detail. It even notes that the game is helping local tourism, with Japanese businesses creating themed souvenirs to welcome new visitors inspired by the game.
In short, according to this report, Japanese players are really enjoying Ghost of Yotei — a Western-developed game set in their homeland and featuring a female protagonist.
In related news, Ghost of Yotei has reportedly sold 2 million copies, though confusion surrounds the source of the claim after a PlayStation Asia executive shared fan-made artwork.
