Ghost of Yotei Outperforms Ghost of Tsushima in Early Sales
In its latest financial report, Sony also shared sales data for Ghost of Yotei, one of its most recent first-party releases. After 32 days on the market, the new game from Sucker Punch sold 3.3 million copies, a result that is slightly higher than Ghost of Tsushima when compared over a similar time period.
According to Sony, this shows that the series continues to perform well with players, even when measured against the strong launch of its predecessor.
Sales Numbers Compared
Here is a direct comparison of the sales performance of the two games:
Ghost of Tsushima (release date: July 17, 2020)
- 2.4 million copies sold by July 18, 2020 (3 days after launch)
- 5.0 million copies sold by November 11, 2020 (128 days after launch)
Ghost of Yotei (release date: October 2, 2025)
- 3.3 million copies sold by November 2, 2025 (32 days after launch)
Looking at the data, it is worth noting that both sales periods end just before the holiday season, which usually brings a strong boost in sales.
It is still too early to say how much Ghost of Yotei will benefit from holiday sales, as that will only become clear in Sony’s next financial report. However, the current numbers already confirm the strong appeal of Sucker Punch’s series.
Once again, the studio has managed to combine solid market performance with controlled development costs, reinforcing the franchise as one of Sony’s most reliable first-party successes.
In other news, former Sony exec Shuhei Yoshida believes Ghost of Yotei is better than Ghost of Tsushima, praising the developers’ understanding of Japanese culture and their commitment to authenticity.
